In a swing state, Arab Americans call on Trump to fulfill his pledges to put an end to the conflict in Gaza.
In the 2024 election, Dearborn and Dearborn Heights were won by Trump.
In Dearborn, Michigan, leaders who helped Trump win the swing state wrote a letter urging him to fulfill his promise to bring peace to Gaza.
"The MENA American Chamber of Commerce has written a letter to Trump urging his administration and transition team to use their political influence to demand an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon and Palestine. This aligns with the commitment toward lasting peace that Trump made."
The movement in Dearborn that began as a protest against President Biden's handling of the war in Gaza eventually led to Trump's surprising victory in both Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, Michigan, cities with significant Arab American populations.
The narrow victory of President-elect Trump in Michigan was due to the votes of those swing state voters.
In the final stretch of his successful campaign, Trump prioritized reaching out to the Muslim community in Michigan, earning the endorsement of numerous community leaders in Dearborn and Metro Detroit.
The MENA American Chamber of Commerce believes that the president-elect's political influence could help end the conflict in the region more quickly.
"The letter urges for an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon and Palestine while working towards a lasting peace in the region. Additionally, the letter believes that the team's leadership will be crucial in advancing productive U.S.-Lebanese relations."
The Arab American community's values were reflected in Trump's commitment to peace, which was acknowledged by the group.
"Dearborn, Michigan, a city with the highest concentration of Arab Americans outside the Middle East, turned red in this presidential election due to your genuine outreach to our community and our belief that you are the optimal choice for our democracy, economy, and matters of foreign policy. The over 3.5 million MENA Americans, some of whom reside in the swing states, are proud to have contributed to your margins of victory, particularly in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Your success is a testament to your resonance with the values and concerns of MENA Americans."
The Trump transition team did not promptly reply to a Planet Chronicle Digital inquiry for comment.
