Last week, President-elect Trump won six highly competitive states in his election victory. However, a Planet Chronicle analysis revealed that his gains with voters extended beyond the battlegrounds.
This list covers the 10 states where Trump most outperformed his 2020 margins.
Notably, states with conservative strongholds aren't the only ones on the list. The top 10 also includes deeply Democrat areas. Despite Trump not winning these states, they shifted to the right.
Some highly populated states, including California and New York, are still counting votes.
1. New York
In New York, about 3% of ballots remain uncounted.
- 2020 Winner: Biden +23.1 points
- 2024 Winner: Harris +11.8 points
- Swing toward Trump: 11 points
So far, New York has swung 11 points toward Trump.
While Vice President Harris slipped by five points, the president-elect posted a 6.3-point improvement on his 2020 vote share.
He experienced the most significant growth throughout the state, with his greatest fluctuations occurring in New York City and Long Island.

2. New Jersey
In New Jersey, about 1% of ballots remain uncounted.

While the president-elect gained 4.7 points in his 2020 vote share, Harris lost 5.3 points.
Across New Jersey, he gained the most, with his largest swings occurring in the northeast corner of the state. Hudson and Passaic counties were at the forefront.

3. Florida

The most significant shift occurred in Miami-Dade County, where the GOP gained control for the first time since 1988.

4. Massachusetts

Across the state, double-digit swings were observed in Suffolk County, which includes Boston and Bristol County.

5. California
Approximately 5% of ballots in California have not yet been counted.

The president-elect gained 3.8 points in his vote share while Harris lost 4.8 points in the 2020 election.
He made progress in numerous regions throughout the state, including the two largest cities, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

6. Texas

In Texas, the largest swings in voter behavior were observed in the southern regions, with Webb County, which includes Laredo, moving 25 points towards Trump, marking the first Republican victory in the area in over a century.

While the president-elect gained 3.5 points in his 2020 vote share, Harris lost three points.
Trousdale County, a rural area outside the Nashville metropolitan area, experienced a double-digit swing, while he gained across the state.

10. Illinois
In Illinois, about 1% of ballots remain uncounted.
