Illinois governor advocates for deportation of 'violent' illegal immigrants, open to discussing with Trump administration.
Tom Homan's comments were addressed by J.B. Pritzker.
J.B. Pritzker, the Democratic governor of Illinois, concurs with one aspect of Tom Homan's mass deportation plan under the Trump administration.
At a Northwest Side GOP gathering on Monday evening, Homan made comments about deporting millions of undocumented immigrants, which Pritzker responded to, according to FOX 32 Chicago. This move would affect tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants in Chicago and Illinois.
"Pritzker stated at a news conference that he believes undocumented violent criminals who have been convicted of a crime should be deported from the state. He emphasized that he does not want them in his state and does not think they should be in the United States."
Homan stated that no one is exempt from deportation, with public safety threats being the top priority. He specifically mentioned Pritzker and Mayor Johnson in his comments.
"If the Chicago mayor refuses to assist, he can step aside. However, if he obstructs us or knowingly harbors an illegal alien, I will prosecute him."
No one has reached out to Pritzker for a meeting with Homan or the incoming Trump administration, despite his willingness to meet, according to FOX 32.
Illinois Republicans urge Pritzker to cooperate with Homan and repeal sanctuary laws that restrict law enforcement's cooperation with ICE.
According to new figures obtained by Planet Chronicle, 1.4 million noncitizens have deportation orders but are not currently in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention.
The list of top countries of nationals has Mexico (252,044), Guatemala (253,413), Honduras (261,651), and El Salvador (203,822) at the top.
Besides the United States, other countries with significant numbers of individuals facing removal include China, Haiti, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.
