House Republicans, led by Chip Roy, are working to repeal a law employed by the Biden administration to prosecute pro-lifers.

Pro-life activists are being targeted by federal law, according to Republicans.

Over 20 House Republicans are supporting a bill to abolish the law employed by the previous administration to prosecute numerous pro-life demonstrators.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is spearheading the campaign to abolish the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which Republicans contend has been selectively applied to pro-life activists who have demonstrated outside of abortion clinics. He disclosed information his office obtained from the Justice Department under Attorney General Merrick Garland, indicating that 97% of FACE Act prosecutions in the past two decades were directed against abortion opponents.

Roy stated that Americans have been subjected to a weaponized justice system for the past four years, with the FACE Act being a primary tool of abuse used to politically target, arrest, and imprison pro-life individuals for expressing their views and defending life.

"With a Republican majority in the House, Senate, and White House, Congress must act swiftly to abolish this law and prevent any future president from exploiting it against pro-lifers."

The FACE Act criminalizes the use of threats, obstruction, or property damage to interfere with reproductive health care services. Since the fall of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, President Biden's Justice Department has aggressively prosecuted pro-life activists under this 1994 law.

Since May 2022, at least 90 attacks have been made against pro-life organizations and pregnancy resource centers, according to Roy's office. However, the Biden administration has only prosecuted five individuals for these attacks, despite many incidents targeting Catholic churches and pro-life centers.

The arrest of Mark Houck, a pro-life activist, by a SWAT team of around 25 people in front of his children at their Pennsylvania home in October 2021, sparked controversy and accusations of political bias against the Biden DOJ.

At least 21 pro-life activists who demonstrated at abortion facilities have been petitioned for pardon by conservative groups.

In May, a judge sentenced Paulette Harlow, 75, to 2 years in prison and Lauren Handy, 30, to nearly 5 years for their roles in a 2020 "blockade" of an abortion clinic in Washington, D.C. The other eight defendants also received prison sentences ranging from 10 months to 57 months for violating the FACE Act.

The Biden administration has been criticized by Trump for prosecuting pro-life protesters, and Trump has indicated that he may grant them pardons.

Roy, the director of government affairs for CatholicVote, praised the repeal bill introduced by him and called the prosecutions of pro-lifers under Biden "unfair."

"With a President who will enact the FACE Act Repeal bill, it is now time to pass Rep. Chip Roy's FACE Act Repeal," McClusky stated.

The FACE Act is a tool used by the Department of Justice to target peaceful protesters who oppose the human rights violation of abortion, as stated by Students for Life Action.

The FACE Act is a form of viewpoint discrimination that punishes peaceful pro-life prayer warriors while ignoring violent pro-abortion protesters. This hypocrisy must end, as it is a clear abuse of prosecutorial pro-abortion aggression, said Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life Action & Students for Life of America.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment on Roy's hope that Congress and the administration would act swiftly to pass his bill and grant pardons to those he believes were unjustly punished.

"Roy stated that he hopes President Trump and his team will grant pardons and commutations to those targeted under the FACE Act, just as they are already working to reverse the damage caused by the J6 political prosecutions and persecutions. However, he emphasized that Congress must also take action to eliminate the laws used for political weaponization, including the FACE Act."

"No more excuses, let's get it done."
