House Republicans criticize Trump's poor debate performance: 'Allow her to provoke him'
One GOP legislator characterized the discussion as a 'garbage pile'.
House Republicans are privately expressing frustration over Trump's debate performance against Harris on Tuesday.
Several House GOP lawmakers, who requested anonymity, stated that Trump missed opportunities to effectively attack Harris and promote his own record. A few added that it was widely believed within the House Republican Conference that Harris successfully goaded him on several occasions. However, most argued that it would have little impact on Election Day.
Everyone is seeing that comment," a senior House Republican told Planet Chronicle Digital, describing it as "terrible.
"The terrible thing is that he had numerous chances to pursue her, but he didn't. He became entangled in the hook she was dragging through the water."
Another GOP lawmaker described the debate as a "dumpster fire" for the former president.
"The lawmaker stated that the bloodletting was one of the worst he had ever witnessed. However, he also pointed out that the optics of Trump standing next to Kamala Harris made him appear old. In contrast, he looked younger when standing next to Biden, and this cannot be fixed."
That lawmaker believed the debate would sway voters in the middle, who are crucial to the election outcome.
Their fellow conference members agreed that "she did well," as a third Republican said, "she certainly got under his skin."
Planet Chronicle Digital interviewed GOP lawmakers who expressed their view that Trump's policies and record are more robust than Harris's, and they were disappointed that his accomplishments were not more prominently featured in his campaign.
"The third Republican remarked that although he made several valid points, she managed to evade all of his arguments. He suggested that they should stop treating her as if she were Joe Biden, who struggled to articulate his thoughts, and instead treat her more like Hillary Clinton."
When asked for their reaction to the debate, a fourth GOP lawmaker stated that they prefer not to discuss cats and dogs and immigrants.
She added that Harris failed to present herself as a credible person with a clear policy agenda.
When asked if Harris successfully baited him, they said it was Trump's own fault.
Another Republican stated that they had not discussed the debate with GOP colleagues, adding, "I believe everyone is just disheartened."
"The fifth lawmaker stated that they set a trap, and he walked into it. Despite not being helped, there were many easy things he could have said. The lawmaker added that all he had to do was talk about the border, the world on fire, and inflation. However, instead of doing so, she poked and prodded until she got a reaction."
A GOP lawmaker sheepishly admitted that the presidential candidate missed some opportunities to highlight her record, but did not elaborate further.
On Tuesday night, a seventh Republican who spoke with Planet Chronicle Digital after the debate stated that Harris was effectively goading him.
"He's accurate in policy but struggles with maintaining a consistent message," they criticized.
Though some House Republicans spoke out against Trump, the majority praised him, with top GOP leaders declaring victory for the ex-president minutes after the debate.
In a statement on Tuesday night, Vice President Kamala Harris was exposed as a dangerous radical by President Donald Trump.
On Wednesday, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., stated that Trump did a great job during the debate preparation.
The discussion centered on immigration and the economy, and it was in these areas that President Trump excelled among voters, as he pointed out.
Trump declared a 'BIG WIN' on his Truth Social app following the debate.
The Trump campaign referred to its statement on the debate from Tuesday night, which stated that President Trump gave a remarkable performance in the debate, criticizing Kamala Harris's poor record of failure that has harmed Americans for the past four years.
President Trump presented a vision for America that emphasizes economic growth, border security, and reducing crime.
"In contrast, Kamala's view of America was a stark contrast to the oppressive, big government policies of Joe Biden that she intends to maintain."
