Harris pledges to serve as president for all Americans while criticizing Trump.
The potential outcomes of re-electing Donald Trump as President are highly severe, according to Harris.
Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her most significant political speech after being nominated as the Democrats' 2024 presidential candidate one month after President Biden stepped down.
During her 40-minute speech at the conclusion of the four-day Democratic National Convention held at Chicago's United Center, Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to lead Americans towards a new path if they choose her to succeed President Biden.
Harris cautioned Americans against electing Trump, the Republican candidate, back into office.
"The vice president contended that while Donald Trump may be unserious in many ways, the repercussions of his return to the White House are highly consequential."
In the upcoming election, Harris expressed her hope that the country could come together, stating, "This election presents a rare chance for our nation to move beyond the bitterness, cynicism, and divisive conflicts of the past."
""I will be a president who unites us around our highest aspirations, leads and listens, is realistic, practical, and has common sense, and always fights for the American people," she pledged."
Harris assured viewers that she would be a president for all Americans, regardless of their political beliefs, as she watched the election results.
Her life's work has taken her from the courthouse to the White House, as she said, having served as San Francisco district attorney, California attorney general, and U.S. vice president before being elected to the Senate four years ago.
In 2020, Harris made history as the first woman elected vice president, and this month she broke another record by becoming the first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to win a major party's presidential nomination. If she wins in November, Harris could become the nation's first female president.
Since becoming the top Democrat on the 2024 ticket four weeks ago, Harris has been experiencing a surge of excitement and support in both polling and fundraising.
She exited the stage at Chicago's United Center arena to thunderous applause and a sustained standing ovation that included chants of "yes, you can."
She shared how her dream to become a scientist who would cure breast cancer was strengthened by the sexual abuse of a childhood friend, which ultimately led her to pursue a career as a prosecutor.
"As the people I grew up with, who work diligently, pursue their aspirations, and care for one another, I am honored to be nominated to serve as President of the United States of America, representing the countless individuals whose stories can only be told in the greatest nation on earth," Harris stated.
During the vice president's speech, Trump frequently used social media to criticize his potential 2024 opponent.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, "While Harris discussed her early years, I emphasized the need to address the border, inflation, and crime."
Trump questioned why Harris didn't address the issues she criticized during her time as vice president.
As anticipated, Harris highlighted reproductive rights in her speech, an issue that has galvanized Democrats since the Supreme Court's conservative majority overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling, which legalized abortion nationwide.
She contended that "Donald Trump appointed Supreme Court justices with the intention of restricting reproductive rights."
As President of the United States, she pledged to sign into law any bill that restores reproductive freedom when Congress passes it.
The Biden administration has been criticized by Trump and fellow Republicans for its handling of the surge of migrants into the country in the past three and a half years, with border security being a key concern.
Earlier this year, a border security bill with bipartisan support was moving through Congress. However, Republicans abandoned the measure after receiving guidance from Trump.
Harris reiterated that as President, she will revive the bipartisan border security bill that was previously vetoed and sign it into law.
As Commander-in-Chief, I promise to maintain America's strongest and deadliest military force, prioritize the care of our troops and their families, and always honor and respect their service and sacrifice.
The crowd in the arena chanted "USA, USA" in response to the comments made by Democratic politicians, officials, activists, and supporters.
Harris stated that she would not form a friendly relationship with dictators like Kim-Jong-Un, who support Trump.
If elected, she vowed to continue the Biden administration's efforts to resolve two significant international conflicts.
She pledged to remain steadfast with Ukraine and its NATO allies in the face of Russia's aggression in eastern Europe.
She made it clear that she will always support Israel's right to defend itself and ensure it has the ability to do so, as the people of Israel must never again face the terror inflicted by Hamas on October 7th.
She stated that the situation in Gaza over the past 10 months has been devastating, with countless innocent lives lost and desperate, hungry people constantly fleeing for safety. The scale of suffering is heartbreaking.
The Democrats' convention has been disrupted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators who have been protesting outside the party's headquarters all week, as the party grapples with internal divisions over the Biden administration's stance on Israel's conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
We are working to end this war, ensuring Israel's security, releasing hostages, ending suffering in Gaza, and allowing the Palestinian people to achieve their right to dignity, freedom, and self-determination, which received thunderous applause.
On July 21, Biden announced the end of his re-election campaign following a poor debate performance with Trump in late June, which raised doubts about his physical and mental capacity to handle another term in office and prompted calls from within the Democratic Party for him to withdraw from the race.
During the first night of the convention, Biden delivered a highly respected and heartfelt speech before heading to California for a short break.
Harris, near the top of her speech, praised her boss.
""Joe Biden, our president. Your character is inspiring and your record is extraordinary, as history will show," she said, filled with gratitude for the path they have traveled together."
Harris delivered a shutout to her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who had spoken at the convention the previous night.
"You will be an incredible vice president, Coach Tim Walz," she said.
Biden has attempted to depict Harris as a far-left extremist since he became the Democrats' presidential nominee.
In an interview with Planet Chronicle anchors Bret Baier and Martha McCallum, Trump accused Harris of being a Marxist, stating that she has always been and always will be.
The former president characterized Harris' address as mainly "complaints."
"He emphasized that she didn't discuss China, fracking, crime, poverty, or housing."
