On Thursday, the Harris campaign confirmed to Planet Chronicle that Vice President Kamala Harris has altered her stance on several immigration and border-security policies, including decriminalizing illegal crossings and shutting down immigration detention centers.

"While President Trump remains committed to the extreme views in his Project 2025 plan, Vice President Harris believes that effective leadership involves bringing people together to reach a consensus. This approach allowed the Biden-Harris administration to achieve bipartisan breakthroughs on issues such as infrastructure and gun violence prevention. As President, she will continue to take a practical approach, focusing on finding common-sense solutions to move forward."

As a California senator and a 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate, Harris has been subject to criticism regarding her past views on border security. However, a Harris campaign advisor stated that her current positions have been influenced by her three years of experience as part of the Biden-Harris administration.

During the 2020 presidential primaries, Harris advocated for decriminalizing illegal crossings at the border, stating that they should be treated as a civil offense rather than a criminal one.

In 2017, she stated that an undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.

The campaign spokesman informed Fox that the Vice President's stance on unauthorized border crossings is the same as the administration's - it is illegal.

During her 2019 presidential campaign, she pledged to close immigration detention centers on "day one."

The campaign stated that her stance is aligned with the administration's policy of allocating sufficient resources to enforce laws, prioritizing detention and removal for individuals who pose threats to public safety and national security, and ensuring compliance with immigration proceedings and decisions, including removal.

Harris has consistently supported the Senate package that was agreed upon in negotiations, which includes increasing funding for the border and limiting asylum entries into the U.S.

President Biden signed an executive order in June that restricted asylum at the border, resulting in a significant decrease in crossings following three years of a crisis. The administration claims that the decline is due to the order, and has reiterated its demand for Congress to pass the package, placing the blame on former President Trump for its failure.

According to spokesperson Kevin Munoz, the only "plan" Donald Trump has to secure our border is separating mothers from their children and using xenophobic slogans at the Republican National Convention. He also added that Trump failed to reach a bipartisan border security deal because for him, it's never been about finding solutions, only running on a problem.

How does Kamala Harris’ border stance today differ from her past?

"As with everything involving Donald Trump, it's always been about his own self-interest rather than helping the country. The only candidate in this race who will prioritize bipartisan solutions to enhance border security is Vice President Harris," he stated.

The Trump campaign has countered media narratives that Harris has become a moderate on the issue by attacking her positions, stating that she has been "ON TAPE spanning a decade spewing her dangerously liberal positions on every one of these issues."

The campaign stated that she is not changing, but rather is lying.
