Gov. Abbott introduces new campaign highlighting the alarming risks of undocumented immigration.
Abbott announced that his campaign aims to educate prospective unauthorized immigrants about the consequences of entering Texas illegally.
On Thursday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott unveiled a new billboard campaign to caution illegal immigrants about the dangers and risks they will encounter if they try to enter the U.S. illegally.
The state is placing billboards with warnings in several languages throughout Mexico and Central America, as stated by Abbott.
"The governor stated, "We aim to reveal the truth to potential immigrants about the traffickers who harm numerous women and children during their journey, emphasizing that the risks of an unsafe journey are not worth the consequences of being arrested and deported.""
Abbott, along with the incoming border czar, Tom Homan, recently emphasized that the new Trump administration will prioritize the deportation of illegal immigrants who have been arrested.
Along migrant travel routes, billboards will be written in Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Arabic.
The governor announced his bill at a ranch near the southern border, standing by a burned "rape tree," where property owners claimed migrant women were frequently raped. Abbott stated that the billboards would convey the horrific tales of human trafficking and inform potential illegal immigrants about the grim reality that awaited them if they attempted to enter Texas unlawfully.
A billboard in Spanish features a young girl and poses the question: "What was the cost of having your daughter raped?"
Another depicts a pregnant woman and says: "Your wife and daughter will pay for their trip with their bodies."
Abbott criticized governments and private groups who "present a misleading image that entering Texas is safe," and emphasized that the state is committed to "providing accurate information to immigrants considering moving here, to protect them from sexual assault, arrest, and other dangers, and to make them aware of the potential consequences of taking any additional steps."
"This is a difficult pill to swallow, but we do not want any more rape trees in Texas," said Abbott. "Avoid the perilous journey to Texas."
The governor criticized the surge in illegal immigration under the Biden administration, stating: "This is a dangerous and unacceptable situation that we anticipate will be resolved in approximately a month when President Trump returns to power and secures the border, ensuring the safety and normalcy of the immigration process."
