GOP mutiny threat dissolves, Mike Johnson re-elected House speaker.
Johnson was endorsed by Trump for the position.
On Friday, Mike Johnson, R-La., was re-elected to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In contrast to his predecessor's 15-round battle in 2023, the Louisiana Republican won easily during the first round of voting in 2023.
Despite some conservatives' threats to withhold support from Johnson due to his handling of government funding and other issues in the 118th Congress, the agreement was reached.
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who was a part of an unsuccessful effort to remove Johnson from his position last year, was the most vocal critic of the speaker-designate prior to the Friday vote.
In his new One America News Network program, former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., stated that even if someone were to pull out his fingernails, shove bamboo up them, or start cutting off his fingers, it would not change his stance on certain issues.
"I won't be voting for Mike Johnson tomorrow, and you can count on it," Massie stated.
Members of the House Freedom Caucus, including Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, have expressed interest in chairing the House Rules Committee, which directs terms for House-wide votes on legislation.
If the House Speaker fight continues, Congress' joint session to certify President-elect Trump's victory may be delayed, according to Johnson's allies.
Trump emphasized his support for Johnson hours before the midday vote, and Johnson had a key backer in him.
"Speaker Mike Johnson, a talented individual with near-perfect support, has a big chance to win today, benefiting the Republican Party and adding to the significance of the 129-year presidential election!" Trump posted on his Truth Social app.
Johnson responded to X with "Thank you, President Trump! Today marks a new era in America. Congressional Republicans must remain united to promptly implement President Trump's America First agenda. Let's accomplish it."
Johnson's victory signifies the beginning of his first full term as speaker, having won the gavel in October 2023 after three weeks of negotiations following the removal of ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
