A group of over 60 former Democratic and Republican attorneys general wrote a letter to Senate leaders on Thursday, expressing their support for Pam Bondi to be appointed as the head of the Department of Justice. They highlighted her extensive prosecutorial experience, including her eight years as Florida's attorney general, which they believed made her an ideal candidate for the role.

The letter, which was exclusively previewed to Planet Chronicle Digital, features the signatures of over 20 Democratic attorneys general or attorneys general appointed by Democratic governors.

During her tenure as Florida's attorney general and a state prosecutor in Hillsborough County, Bondi's work was widely admired and praised by the group across party and state lines.

"The former attorneys general who have worked directly with Attorney General Bondi stated in a letter that they have firsthand knowledge of her fitness for the office. They believe that her wealth of prosecutorial experience and commitment to public service make General Bondi a highly qualified nominee for Attorney General of the United States."

The letter commended Bondi's "unwavering" dedication to ensuring public safety and upholding the law during her tenure in Florida, where she focused on reducing violent crime, safeguarding consumers, and combating the opioid epidemic, which was at its peak when she was elected attorney general in 2010.

The State Attorney General community values and respects Bondi, and therefore, we are confident that she will excel as the United States Attorney General.

The confirmation hearing for Bondi will take place later this month, and the letter was sent shortly after the Senate Judiciary Committee announced the dates.

A letter signed by over 100 former Justice Department officials was sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee this week, advocating for the confirmation of Bondi in the Republican-majority chamber.

The state attorneys general's new letter of support for Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi was issued hours after Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., expressed fresh reservations about Bondi following their meeting. Durbin cited Bondi's work defending President-elect Donald Trump in his impeachment proceedings and following the 2020 election as a concern.

Durbin stated that the Attorney General's responsibility is to ensure an autonomous Justice Department that adheres to the rule of law and remains uninfluenced by politics.

"Based on Ms. Bondi's answers to my questions, I am still worried that she will prioritize her loyalty to Donald Trump over upholding her oath to the Constitution as Attorney General."
