Fetterman remains enthusiastically supportive of Stefanik for US ambassador to UN: "Always was a hard YES"
The UN has been accused of 'rank, pervasive antisemitism' by Fetterman.
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., reaffirmed his support for Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., to be nominated as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations after speaking with her.
@EliseStefanik was always a hard YES for Fetterman, but it was a pleasure to have a conversation with her. Fetterman supports defunding UNRWA for its documented Hamas infiltration and fully looks forward to her holding the @UN accountable for its endemic antisemitism and blatant anti-Israel views.
The senator made the comments while retweeting Stefanik, who posted a photo of herself and Fetterman giving each other a double thumbs up.
"Senator Fetterman hosted a productive meeting with us where we discussed our shared commitment to standing with Israel and combating antisemitism," Stefanik wrote in her post.
"I emphasized my plan for implementing President @realDonaldTrump's America First peace through strength national security strategy, while Senator Fetterman presented his own ideas for strong national security leadership," Stefanik stated.
In the previous month, Donald Trump, the newly-elected President, named Stefanik as his pick for the position of U.S. ambassador to the UN.
Last month, Fetterman stated that he planned to vote in favor of confirming Stefanik and Sen. Marco Rubio, whom Trump appointed as Secretary of State, as "serious, qualified individuals."
The lawmaker, a staunch supporter of Israel, criticized the UN for its "deep-seated and widespread anti-Semitic tendencies," expressing his eagerness to support @RepStefanik in maintaining a robust and unapologetic pro-Israel stance.
Fetterman, who lost the 2022 U.S. Senate contest in Pennsylvania to Dr. Mehmet Oz, indicated that he was open to supporting confirmation after Trump tapped Oz to serve as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator.
Fetterman stated that if Dr. Oz prioritizes safeguarding and maintaining Medicare and Medicaid, he would support the candidate.
