FEMA is being sued by Florida's Attorney General for alleged political discrimination against Trump supporters.
FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell condemned the behavior of the terminated employee.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials are being sued by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody for allegedly instructing their workers to disregard storm victims who back President-elect Trump.
Reports emerged that FEMA workers in Lake Placid, Florida, were instructed to overlook households of storm victims who displayed support for Trump.
"FEMA workers adhered to instructions and entered messages into a government database, including 'Trump sign no entry per leadership,' according to the lawsuit." "Whistleblowers allege that at least 20 homes with Trump signs or flags in Lake Placid, Florida, were overlooked from October to November due to guidance."
Floridians still face the threat of damaging storms this season, and Moody vowed to investigate the allegations.
"The attorney general stated that the federal agency responsible for emergency response is facing a scandal over withholding aid from storm victims in Florida who support President Trump. He vowed to take swift legal action to investigate the extent of this political discrimination and ensure that all Americans who suffer from devastating storms receive the aid they need, regardless of their political affiliation."
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stated that he supports legal action and directed other state agencies to take "any action necessary" to investigate and hold alleged wrongdoers accountable.
He stated that it is unacceptable for the federal government to discriminate against Floridians who voted for Trump, and especially egregious in the aftermath of a hurricane.
FEMA declined to comment on the legal action against Planet Chronicle Digital, stating that they do not comment on pending litigation. Instead, they provided a statement from FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell about the incident and the employee's termination.
On Saturday, FEMA's Criswell informed Planet Chronicle Digital that the employee had been dismissed due to her "reprehensible" behavior, which violated FEMA's core values and principles of assisting people regardless of their political affiliation.
On Friday, a FEMA spokesperson informed Planet Chronicle that the agency was "deeply troubled" by the actions of the fired employee, but emphasized that it was an "isolated incident."
Marn'i Washington, the former FEMA supervisor who was terminated, stated that her actions were in accordance with the agency's instructions and not limited to her team alone. She also accused FEMA of unfairly targeting her.
On Wednesday, Washington told "Planet Chronicle @ Night" that he was being held responsible for the exposure of his notes in Microsoft Teams chat, which he had taken down from his superiors.
Punitive damages are being sought in a lawsuit against Washington and Criswell individually.
