Federal DEI programs could be reduced, suggests DOGE report.
Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency is reportedly considering a proposal to reduce DEI initiatives.
A new report reveals that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is considering a proposal to reduce federal diversity and inclusion programs.
The objective of DOGE is to reduce government expenditure, minimize waste, and optimize operations, while also shaping White House policy on budget-related matters.
The report from the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, a conservative and libertarian nonprofit organization, is being circulated among DOGE advisors, according to the Washington Post.
The organization argues that the annual spending of over $120 billion on "diversity, equity and inclusion" initiatives, such as Agriculture Department grants and loans for minority farmers and ranchers, is unconstitutional.
Sources informed the Post that diversity efforts may face cuts to allocate funds elsewhere. The document has been reviewed by DOGE advisors and is being circulated among the committee.
"According to a source close to DOGE's early plans, the individual stated that once the president is confirmed on January 20th, the implementation of DEI initiatives will occur rapidly and intensely."
This week, the New York Times reported that Musk is expected to take up space in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is adjacent to the West Wing and houses the majority of office space for White House staffers.
The Times reported that while Musk and transition officials have discussed Musk's access to the Trump post-inauguration, no solid plans have been finalized. The Times also mentioned that special passes are typically needed to freely visit the West Wing.
The committee is not part of the federal government, but it is expected to propose executive orders for the Trump administration and collaborate with the Office of Management and Budget on new initiatives.
The federal government budget could be reduced by $2 trillion through DOGE's proposed cuts to spending, programs, and the workforce.
Eliminating $2 trillion from the federal budget may not be feasible, as Musk recently stated. Instead, cutting $1 trillion might be a more realistic goal.
"During the CES tech trade show in Las Vegas this month, Musk stated that he believes the best-case outcome is to aim for $2 trillion. However, he also mentioned that there should be some overage, and if they strive for $2 trillion, they have a better chance of achieving $1 trillion."
