FBI Director Wray Resigns, Patel Prepares to Take Over and Ensure a Smooth Transition
Patel expressed to Planet Chronicle Digital that he anticipates a seamless transition.
Kash Patel, President-elect Donald Trump's pick for FBI director, stated on Wednesday that he aims for a "smooth transition" to replace Christopher Wray, who announced his plans to resign as FBI director at the end of the Biden administration.
"On Wednesday, Patel told Planet Chronicle Digital that he was looking forward to a smooth transition and was ready to serve the American people on day one in response to Wray's announcement."
Trump appointed Wray to replace Comey in his first term as president. Trump dismissed Comey from his position in 2017, just three years and nine months into his tenure.
Earlier this month, Trump announced his intention to replace Wray with Patel, a trusted advisor of the president-elect. Patel previously served in the first Trump administration as a deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism.
Trump lauded Wray's resignation as a "great day for America" and an end to the "Weaponization" of the Justice Department, which he has repeatedly criticized.
Trump stated that Kash Patel is the most qualified candidate to lead the FBI in the agency's history and is dedicated to restoring law, order, and justice to the country.
After Wray announced his plans to resign as FBI director at the end of Biden's term, Patel and Trump made their comments.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to remain in my position as Director of the FBI until the end of the current Administration in January, after which I will step down. My objective is to maintain the Bureau's focus on its mission, which is vital to the American people. By doing so, I believe we can avoid becoming embroiled in political controversies while upholding the values and principles that define our work."
