Experts warn that Biden could face significant political consequences if he changes his stance on pardoning Hunter Biden.
Biden vowed to respect the verdict following Hunter's guilty plea.
Should President Biden decide to pardon his son, Hunter, after his conviction on federal firearm purchase charges, he could face significant political backlash, according to experts.
Biden has stated that he will not issue a pardon for his son, who faces a maximum of 25 years in prison, but some believe that the possibility of the president changing his mind is not entirely impossible.
According to Republican strategist Tricia McLaughlin, American voters are not very concerned about the gun charges against the family. Instead, they are more focused on the influence peddling and covert business dealings. Therefore, she believes that a pardon for the family would only further highlight the impropriety involved.
The trial of Hunter Biden has sparked more questions about his infamous laptop, and I believe there would be significant political fallout if people are not paying attention to the gun charges.
Last week, the laptop was presented as evidence in the trial by prosecutors, demonstrating its authenticity and refuting claims that it was a tool of Russian disinformation, as previously suggested by Biden's 2020 presidential campaign and former Biden-supporting intelligence community officials.
"If the laptop and a pardon do not exist, then Biden has zero credibility, especially when it comes to family dealings."
Erin Perrine, a Republican strategist, stated on Fox that Biden's loss of support from all corners of the Democratic base meant that Hunter's conviction should be the least of his concerns. However, she concurred with McLaughlin that a pardon would emphasize the allegations of impropriety within the Biden family.
The possibility that Biden could pardon his son highlights the unequal justice system and the double standard of justice for Democrats and their familial felons, she said.
"The notion that a pardon is a possibility is why Americans are outraged at how Biden has weaponized the judicial system."
According to political commentator Kristin Tate, a pardon flip-flip would not significantly impact Biden politically, but his supporters would argue that the trial was politically motivated, thereby shielding the president from any potential backlash if he were to pardon his son.
She contended that Hunter wouldn't spend any substantial time in jail, regardless of a potential pardon, "even though he should."
"In the United States, there exists a dual justice system. As seen with Hillary Clinton's lawbreaking, nothing was done. However, this is in stark contrast to what's happening to Donald Trump with questionable charges. I assure you, Hunter will not be going to jail," Tate stated.
She stated that the US justice system has been fully weaponized and politicized, making it a dangerous joke.
In the case, Hunter was convicted of all charges, including lying about the purchase of a gun, providing false information to a federally licensed gun dealer, and possessing a gun while addicted to a controlled substance.
The jury took three hours to deliberate, from Monday afternoon until Tuesday morning.
