Elton John finds Trump's nickname for Kim Jong Un 'amusing'.
Elton John praised the nickname "Little Rocket Man" for Kim Jong Un, calling it "brilliant."
Elton John has expressed his disapproval of former President Trump using the nickname "Little Rocket Man" to refer to North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, which is based on one of the singer's hit songs.
At the Toronto Film Festival last week, the "Tiny Dancer" singer revealed to Variety that he found Trump's nickname for the dictator amusing and caused him to chuckle.
"I laughed and thought it was brilliant," John said. "I just thought, 'Good on you, Donald.' ... Donald's always been a fan of mine, and he's been to my concerts many, many times. So, I mean, I've always been friendly toward him, and I thank him for his support. When he did that, I just thought it was hilarious. It made me laugh."
In 2017, Trump and Kim engaged in a war of words as North Korea conducted several high-profile weapons tests in an effort to acquire the capability to launch nuclear strikes on the U.S. mainland. Trump threatened to unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea and called Kim a "Little Rocket Man," while Kim questioned Trump's sanity and said he would "tame the mentally deranged U.S. dotard with fire."
Since 2019, when Trump met with the dictator of North Korea, their relationship has been described as friendly by the former president.
During a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last week, the former president stated that he had a good relationship with Kim Jong-un of North Korea and was the first person to ever walk over from the country.
John stated that he won't utilize his platform to instruct concertgoers on how to vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, despite also expressing his opinions on the matter.
"John stated, "I do not go on stage and urge people to vote for either the Republicans or Democrats. It is not my place to dictate their voting choices. They come to see me, and I am grateful for their presence." John added, "Last night, I wanted to convey a sense of urgency, as Dick Cheney mentioned recently. America is in a precarious position, and it is a country I hold dear. It has played a significant role in shaping who I am.""
The "Your Song" singer stated, "I simply desire individuals to vote for what is fair and significant to them: the freedom to select and the freedom to be oneself. This extends to the Supreme Court."
