Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is expected to take up office space at the White House as he prepares to head the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to a recent report.

The New York Times reports that Musk may occupy space in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is located next to the West Wing and houses the bulk of office space for White House staffers.

Plans for Musk's access to President-elect Trump after the inauguration are still pending, according to the outlet, which stated that special passes are usually required for those to freely visit the West Wing.

The DOGE is not a government agency but rather a committee that will propose executive orders for the Trump administration and collaborate with the Office of Management and Budget to implement changes.

The goal of DOGE is to reduce the federal government budget by $2 trillion through measures to decrease spending, government programs, and the federal workforce.

Musk recently expressed uncertainty about the possibility of reducing the federal budget by $2 trillion and suggested a more realistic goal of cutting $1 trillion.

"During the CES tech trade show in Las Vegas last week, Musk stated that he believes the best-case outcome is to aim for $2 trillion. However, he also mentioned that there should be some overage, and if they strive for $2 trillion, they have a higher chance of achieving $1 trillion."

This month, the Washington Post reported that aides for Musk and Ramaswamy had begun interviewing staffers from various government agencies for DOGE, including the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service, as well as the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services.

The Washington Post reports that DOGE's team, consisting of approximately 50 staffers, aims to expand to about 100 members by the inauguration. These employees are currently working from SpaceX's offices in Washington, D.C.

According to the New York Times, those close to Musk, who donated millions of dollars to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, said he is still undecided about whether he will lead DOGE as a special government employee and, therefore, be obligated to submit financial disclosure forms.

If Musk decides to relinquish his special government employee status, he may face certain restrictions, including the need for public meetings and the sharing of DOGE documents with the public, according to the outlet.

This week, Musk and other tech industry leaders and venture capitalists are scheduled to gather in Washington, D.C. for a dinner with incoming Trump administration officials to discuss global innovation in artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.

Katherine Tarbox and Laurent Bili, the founders of Outside the Box Ventures, are hosting the dinner.

The upcoming event signifies more than just a discussion. It is hoped that it will mark the beginning of a new era of public-private cooperation to utilize technology's transformative potential for the country's future, according to a source close to the planning.
