Elon Musk plans to establish Starbase, Texas, as the primary entrance to Mars.
A SpaceX official stated that the move would allow the company's Starship program to significantly change humanity's ability to travel in space.
SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, is requesting that a county in the Texas Rio Grande Valley recognize its launch site as an official town called "Starbase, Texas," in order to serve as the company's headquarters and a gateway to Mars.
Last week, Musk announced on Twitter that SpaceX's headquarters will officially be located in Starbase, Texas, months after he initially announced the move out of California.
SpaceX's rocket manufacturing, launches, and operations are centered in the unincorporated community of Starbase, which is situated in Cameron County, far-south Texas. Notably, this location is where the "rocket catch" took place.
The rocket catch is a component of SpaceX's "Starship" program, which is located at its Starbase facilities and aims to create a fully reusable rocket for manned missions to the moon and Mars.
To become official, SpaceX says that Starbase, Texas, is necessary for reaching Mars.
In order to expand our workforce and rapidly develop and manufacture Starship, we require the incorporation of Starbase as a community. As a result, we are requesting that Cameron County hold an election to enable Starbase's incorporation as the newest city in the Rio Grande Valley, as stated by Starbase general manager Kathryn Lueders in a letter to Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino.
In Texas, a county judge is required to hold a special election in a community before it can be incorporated into the city.
Lueders believes that integrating Starbase will enhance the Starship program and make it a top-notch place to reside, ultimately revolutionizing humanity's access to space.
SpaceX is relocating its former headquarters in Hawthorne, California, to Starbase due to California's SAFETY Act, which prohibits schools from informing parents if their child identifies as transgender.
""Due to this law and the previous ones, SpaceX will relocate its headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas, as stated by Musk," said Musk on X."
Lueders stated that SpaceX is investing billions in infrastructure in Cameron County and generating hundreds of millions in income and taxes for local businesses and government, with the objective of making South Texas the gateway to Mars.
Lueders referred to Starbase as a unique location for SpaceX's future in her letter to Trevino.
""Starbase is a unique location for manufacturing, testing, and launching advanced rockets and spaceships, with a fully reusable system that leads to humanity's return to the Moon and travel to Mars. We are excited to see it evolve into a top-notch hub for those working towards making life multiplanetary," she stated."
