Firefighters union feels 'betrayed' after supporting Biden in 2019 election.
On Thursday, JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, was booed by some members of a firefighters union in Boston while giving a speech. During his speech, he questioned the members about the benefits they have received from supporting Democrats for so long.
Immediately after Vance entered the stage at the International Association of Fire Fighters Convention, boos were heard, prompting him to remark, "It seems like we have both supporters and detractors."
"Vance initially stated, "That's okay. Listen to what I have to say here, and I'll make my pitch." However, he faced jeering later in his speech when he declared former President Trump and himself the "most pro-worker Republican ticket in history.""
Vance, who spoke a day after Democratic vice presidential candidate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz addressed the same convention, urged the union to reevaluate their past support of Democrats.
"In 2019, the union endorsed a Democrat for president with high hopes, but unfortunately, I believe you've been disappointed."
In recent years, Democrats have been asking unions for money, making grand promises but failing to deliver. Despite supporting Democrats for decades, union membership in the country has declined over the past 70 years.
"What do you have to lose by asking me a question?"
Vance instructed firefighters to recall the wave of anti-police protests that occurred in America during the summer of 2020, emphasizing that "we will not bail out criminals like Kamala Harris did."
Vance stated that the criminals, many of whom were targeting firefighters as they worked to safeguard cities and extinguish fires, would be put behind bars. He emphasized that the country would always support the brave firefighters and first responders who keep the nation secure.
"He stated that they will defend the right to free speech, particularly in regards to unconstitutional COVID vaccine mandates imposed by the current administration. Additionally, he announced their intention to abolish all mandates and fight for the reinstatement of every wrongfully terminated firefighter, including the payment of back pay they are owed."
