Trump announced that Makary would collaborate with HHS nominee RFK Jr. to tackle the 'childhood chronic disease epidemic.'
Dr. Marty Makary, a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, has been nominated by President-elect Trump for the position of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner.
"Trump has nominated Marty Makary MD, MPH, FACS, for FDA Commissioner, stating that the agency has lost the trust of Americans and has strayed from its primary goal as a regulator. He believes that Dr. Makary, a highly respected Johns Hopkins surgical oncologist and health policy expert, is the right person to course-correct and refocus the agency."
Trump appointed Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services with the goal of "Making America healthy again." Following this, Makary was nominated for a position.
Trump appointed Makary to work under Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s leadership to evaluate harmful chemicals in our food supply and drugs and biologics given to our youth, in order to address the Childhood Chronic Disease Epidemic.
Trump stated that Makary, a Planet Chronicle medical contributor, is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and has devoted his career to improving medical quality and lowering hospital and drug costs for all Americans. Makary is also an accomplished professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and a leading advocate for healthcare transparency. He has authored over 300 scientific articles and three New York Times bestselling books on healthcare.
Makary is a renowned expert in public health, cancer care, and surgery, and has been recognized for his work with the Nobility in Science Award from the National Pancreas Foundation and multiple teaching awards. He currently leads the Evidence-Based Medicine and Public Policy Research Group at Johns Hopkins.

On Friday evening, Trump announced several other appointments as part of his transition, including Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as surgeon general and Dr. Dave Weldon to lead the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
