Despite Trump's 2016 'illegitimate' election remarks, Jeffries claims there are no election deniers among Dems.

Despite previously claiming on social media that the 2016 presidential election was "illegitimate," Democratic House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., stated that there are "no election deniers" in the Democratic Party.

On Friday, Jeffries spoke to lawmakers after Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., was re-elected to the top House post for the 119th Congress.

On Friday, Jeffries stated on the House floor that there are no election deniers among the Democrats, which was met with applause from the chamber's members.

Although Jeffries stated that his party members do not dispute election results, he personally claimed on Twitter that President-elect Trump's 2016 election win was not legitimate.

"As we gain more knowledge about the 2016 election, it becomes increasingly clear that it was ILLEGITIMATE," Jeffries wrote in February 2018. "It is crucial for America to determine whether we have a FAKE President in the Oval Office."

Jeffries again made a similar claim several years later.

"History will never recognize you as a legitimate president, so keep pouting," Jeffries wrote to Trump in a 2020 post. A screenshot of the post was shared by Republican Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska following the speaker's vote on Friday.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State and the Democratic nominee, stated that Trump's election win made him an "illegitimate president."

"During a CBS News interview, Clinton stated that Trump is aware of being an illegitimate president due to the various tactics used to win the election, including voter suppression, voter purging, hacking, and false stories."

Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., skipped Trump's 2017 inauguration because he believed the president's election was illegitimate.

In 2017, Nadler stated on CNN that while he was legally elected, the Russian interference in the election, their attempt to hack it, and the FBI's involvement made his election illegitimate and placed an asterisk next to his name.

Several representatives from the Democratic party disputed the outcome of the 2016 election in their respective states after Trump's victory.
