Despite feud with Kevin McCarthy, Matt Gaetz wins re-election in primary.
McCarthy gave $3 million to Gaetz's opponent.
On Tuesday, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz successfully fended off a primary challenge with the support of his former adversary, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Aaron Dimmock, a former Navy aviator and director of the Missouri Leadership Academy, received $3 million in funding from McCarthy for his campaign against Gaetz.
In the previous year, Gaetz collaborated with eight Republicans and some Democrats to remove McCarthy from his position as speaker, resulting in a conflict between them.
The House Ethics Committee investigation into Gaetz's alleged sexual misconduct and drug use has led to McCarthy's attacks on him. However, the allegations are not new, and Gaetz had a strong support base in his district, making Tuesday's outcome the probable result.
The House Ethics Committee, led by Rep. Michael Guest, R-Miss., is still investigating Gaetz for allegations of sexual misconduct, drug use, and improper gifts.
The committee accused Gaetz of being uncooperative with its probe and stated that it encountered challenges in obtaining pertinent information from him.
Gaetz has denied all the allegations.
