Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has directed the raising of full-staff flags at state buildings in honor of President-elect Trump's inauguration on January 20th.

Despite President Biden's official order for flags to fly at half-staff for 30 days following the death of former President Jimmy Carter on Dec. 29, which coincides with Inauguration Day, the mourning period will continue.

The U.S. flag should be displayed at half-staff at the White House and on all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions, as per Biden's statement.

On Inauguration Day, governors across the country issued individual orders on how to display flags in their respective states.

DeSantis follows other Republican governors in flying flags at full-staff before the mourning period ends on Jan. 28. He ordered all flags at the Florida Capitol and state buildings, installations, and grounds to be raised to full height on Jan. 20.

In this special event, where we recognize the contributions of both the incoming and outgoing presidents, our country's flag will be proudly displayed at full-staff to pay tribute to the legacy of our founding fathers and the efforts of those who have devoted themselves to preserving the flame of freedom.

On Inauguration Day, the U.S. Capitol will have its flags flown at full-staff, as ordered by House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Carter's death has prompted criticism from Trump regarding the possibility of displaying flags at half-staff during his inauguration.

"Trump wrote on Truth Social on Jan. 3 that the Democrats are "giddy" about the possibility of the American flag being at "half mast" during his inauguration, thinking it is a great idea because they do not truly love the country but only think about themselves."

"Over the past four years, our once-great America has been ruined. This is due to the actions of those in power. The flag, which has never been at half mast during an inauguration, will be lowered in honor of President Jimmy Carter's death. No American should be happy about this. We must wait and see how it unfolds. Let's Make America Great Again!"

In 1973, when Nixon was sworn-in for his second term, the flags were flown at half-staff in honor of the late President Truman.
