Democrats launch blame game as some party members wish for Biden to step down.
Despite finger-pointing, 50 million people watched Biden's struggle during the debate.
The debate was poorly prepared, but it's not fair to judge the presidency based on a single night. The inner circle is responsible for the poor preparation.
The media's fixation on age is to blame. The CNN moderators failed to challenge Trump's falsehoods. The Democratic Party is responsible for being timid.
The blame-shifting has intensified as President Biden and his campaign attempt to mitigate the fallout from his poor debate showing and deflect criticism that he will lose the election.
The issue with the finger-pointing is that 50 million people observed the president fail to deliver a coherent message or challenge Trump's attacks, sometimes losing his train of thought entirely.
No one required pundits to interpret what they observed with their own eyes - a White House incumbent with a vacant expression and an open mouth.
The liberal media establishment, including the editorial boards of the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as well as prominent names like Tom Friedman, Paul Krugman, David Ignatius, Nick Kristof, and David Remnick, have declared that Biden should step aside in favor of a younger nominee.
A post-debate CBS poll revealed that the percentage of people who doubt Biden's mental fitness to serve another term increased from 65% to 72%.
Jen O'Malley Dillon, campaign chair for Biden, issued a memo stating that past media narratives have caused temporary dips in polls, and any future changes in polling should not be taken as evidence of a significant shift in public opinion.
The debate that Biden wanted was conducted under the no-interruption rules he demanded, and since the Democratic Party was in a state of panic and there were rumors of the convention selecting someone else, it was naturally covered as a major news story.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court granted Trump immunity for official acts, including interactions with the Justice Department, while sending parts of the Jan. 6 indictment back to the trial court. Trump declared it a victory for the Constitution.
The "one bad night" defense is not sufficient for an 81-year-old seeking re-election, as opposed to a 51-year-old Obama, whose stamina and mental acuity were not questioned during his campaign.
At a Biden family gathering on Sunday at Camp David, the discussion centered on how to move past the current crisis, rather than whether the president would step aside, according to the Times. Jill Biden, who has been subject to unfair attacks, is supporting her husband and has always backed his decisions, making it unrealistic to expect her to tell him to abdicate.
The media have been criticized for supposedly covering up Biden's health issues, but they have been highlighting the president's age for a long time. Most journalists lack access to Biden and have only seen what the public has seen on TV, such as the president stumbling and mumbling. This has led to the president's top advisers being determined to protect him from the press, even during a softball Super Bowl interview.
An Axios report reveals that most White House officials, including the residence staff, were barred from Biden's presence, leaving them unaware of his true condition. Jill Biden's top aide led the effort to keep the president bubble-wrapped and isolated from most of his staff, resulting in shock at his debate performance.
The reason the Democrats are in such a panic is their belief that if Trump wins, he will destroy democracy and rule as an authoritarian. Despite their failure to comprehend Trump's popularity, he continues to lead the race, even after being convicted of a felony.
If their fears are justified, how can they risk electing Trump again, despite his embarrassing performance in the debate against an elderly opponent? The Democrats often criticize Trump for being self-centered, but aren't they being selfish too?
The White House leaked that Biden had called Axelrod a "prick," which caused huge blowback for those who suggested that perhaps Joe shouldn't run.

I profiled him during his first White House campaign in 1987, which resulted in a plagiarism scandal. Biden's campaign failed in 2008, but he was later named Barack Obama's running mate. In 2020, the press declared Biden finished when he came in fourth and fifth in the initial primaries, before a massive win in South Carolina propelled him toward the nomination.
Biden has spent his adult life pursuing the presidency. The thrill of traveling on Air Force One is irresistible. He remains convinced that he is the only Democrat capable of defeating Trump.
Despite his party's belief that he should leave the White House, he will not walk away.
