Dem Colorado governor condemns Biden for Hunter pardon: "Prioritized family over country"
Hunter Biden's pardon by President Biden is setting a "bad precedent," says Jared Polis.
President Biden is being accused by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis of prioritizing his family over the country with his pardon for Hunter Biden.
The Democrat wrote on X that while he comprehends President Joe Biden's impulse to pardon his son, he is dismayed that he prioritized his family over the nation.
Polis warned that setting a bad precedent as President could harm his reputation and be abused by future Presidents, emphasizing the importance of being a "Pater familias" or head of the household.
Polis stated that Hunter's legal troubles were a result of his own actions, and although one can understand his difficulties, it is important to remember that no one is exempt from the law, not even a President or their son.
On Sunday night, the White House announced that Biden had granted a pardon to Hunter, who had been convicted in two separate federal cases earlier this year.
The pardon applies to any offenses against the U.S. that Hunter Biden may have committed from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 1, 2024.
""I issued a pardon for my son Hunter today, despite my pledge not to interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making and my observation of his unfair prosecution," Biden stated."
The president asserted that his son was treated unfairly by prosecutors.
""Hunter was treated differently than those who were late paying their taxes due to serious addictions, but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties, as he was not brought to trial on felony charges solely for how he filled out a gun form, without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser," Biden stated."
