'Cartel thugs': House GOP border hawks rally around Trump's deportation plan targeting 'evil terrorists'
Republican leaders urged Congress to impose penalties on sanctuary jurisdictions that safeguard undocumented criminals from expulsion.
The House Border Security Caucus members pledged to support President-elect Trump and his border czar Tom Homan's plans for mass deportation and to intensify their efforts to combat "particularly harmful" sanctuary city policies that protect "evil terrorists" and "cartel thugs."
The Biden administration has led to a historic level of illegal immigration, resulting in a dramatic increase in migrant crime and gang activity, including the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua, according to Rep. Brian Babin, R-Texas.
Trump's border security plans should be supported by Congress, as stated by him, emphasizing the need for immediate deportation of all cartel thugs and evil terrorists.
"Babin stated that the American people can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the Biden administration, which has led to open borders, asylum abuse, lawlessness, and sanctuary cities, is coming to an end."
"As members of the House Border Security Conference, our job is just beginning, according to Babin."
Rep. Tom McClintock, a California Republican, stated that the Secure the Border Act must be passed by congressional Republicans as their top priority. This would prevent future presidents, like Biden, from undermining the law.
"President Trump demonstrated that enforcing laws results in secure borders, while President Biden showed that a leader determined to keep our borders open can achieve that goal."
McClintock stated that Congress should impose penalties on sanctuary cities that safeguard undocumented criminals from expulsion.
Texas Republican Rep. Michael Cloud supported the notion that Congressional Republicans must strengthen their resolve to cut funding for agencies and cities that attract illegal immigrants to the country.
"We must redirect funds from the wrong sources and put an end to the illegal activities of these agencies. This includes the magnet that continues to attract people here through unethical means. As Congress, we must take the necessary steps to ensure that we fulfill our promise to the American people by making the difficult decisions required of us."
The sanctuary city issue is particularly harmful, according to Arizona Republican Rep. Andy Biggs.
Several Democratic leaders in over a dozen sanctuary states and dozens more sanctuary cities, including Hobbs, have pledged to resist Trump's efforts to secure the border and mass deportations, saying they "unequivocally" "will not tolerate" the plan.
"Ignoring the law puts the community at risk," said Biggs. "Preventing the arrest of a criminal or illegal alien also jeopardizes the safety of the community."
Mayors and governors who double down on sanctuary policies and pledge resistance will likely face obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting criminal cartel charges, according to Biggs.
""Donald Trump and Tom Homan are serious, and Congress should be too," he said."
