Biden's botched Afghan withdrawal has left a 'handful of vets' with no response from Kirby.
Kirby stated in a "reply all" email chain that there was "obviously no use in responding" as there was only a "handful" of vets who were all of the same stripe.
John Kirby, the White House National Security Council communications adviser, dismissed the concerns of military veterans critical of the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, stating that there is "no point" in addressing their views in response to a Planet Chronicle Digital inquiry.
Kirby's "reply all" email chain Wednesday afternoon, intended for White House staffers but also including Planet Chronicle Digital, stated that there was "obviously no use in responding" as there was a "handful" of vets who were all of one stripe.
On Wednesday afternoon, Planet Chronicle Digital contacted the White House about criticism from four veterans, including Florida Rep. Cory Mills, who accused Kirby of covering up the Biden administration's 2021 withdrawal in a Monday press conference.
The White House did not respond to the criticism of Kirby and the handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal by four veterans, as quoted in an initial reachout. The email chain was forwarded to White House staffers on the National Security Council, and Kirby replied that there is "no use in responding."
Kirby's email was sent in error, and he later contacted a Planet Chronicle Digital reporter, stating, "I didn't realize you were on the chain." Kirby sent the email while traveling with President Biden on the 9/11 anniversary.
The veterans in the email criticized Kirby for diverting attention away from the Biden administration's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, after House Republicans released a harsh report on the matter following the anniversary of the withdrawal.
Florida Republican Rep. Mills, an Army veteran, stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that the Biden-Harris administration prioritized politics over strategy, and Kirby, whom he wouldn't trust to safeguard his grocery list, is now attempting to conceal their mistakes.
This week, Texas Rep. Mike McCaul, the Republican chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, released a report challenging President Biden's assertion that his hands were constrained by an agreement reached under the previous administration to withdraw the US from Afghanistan by a specific deadline in 2021. The report also stated that State Department officials had no strategy in place to assist Americans and allies while there were still troops in the region to safeguard them.
McCaul's report stated that the lack of an effective response to terror threats prior to the terrorist bombing at Abbey Gate at the Kabul airport, which resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and over 150 Afghan civilians, was due to the Taliban's access to $7 billion in abandoned U.S. weapons and up to $57 million in U.S. funds that were initially intended for the Afghan government.
On Monday, Kirby participated in the White House's press conference and defended the Biden-Harris administration's withdrawal, stating that the new report provides little or no new information.
Kirby mentioned the "real facts" about the withdrawal, stating that the Trump administration struck a deal with the Taliban that required a total U.S. exit from Afghanistan.
"President Biden faced a tough decision upon taking office: adhere to the imperfect agreement and end America's longest war, or break the deal, prolong the conflict, and see a smaller group of American troops back in combat with the Taliban. Biden opted for the former, allowing for more time to prepare for the withdrawal, ultimately making the nation safer."
Mills claimed that Kirby was diverting attention from the White House's unsuccessful foreign policies by highlighting the House Foreign Affairs Committee's threat to subpoena Secretary of State Antony Blinken in 2021 over a dissent cable signed by 23 diplomats that proposed ways to prevent the Taliban's rise as the US prepared to withdraw from Afghanistan.
Mills stated that John Kirby is once again diverting attention from the Biden-Harris administration's failed foreign policies. If the administration were truly transparent, why did HFAC threaten contempt of Congress for Secretary Blinken for intentionally withholding DoS dissent cables from 23 U.S. Embassy diplomats who warned that the administration's strategy would allow the Taliban to advance and lead to the collapse of the Afghan government and American lives to be lost? They knew this and tried to cover it up. This wasn't due to ignorance, but rather a deliberate decision to prioritize political optics over strategy and safety, with no transparency. The administration knew exactly what they were doing, tried to cover it up, and were caught. Tragically, their actions cost the lives of 13 American servicemembers and severely damaged our credibility with allies. They welcomed aggression from adversaries and showed weakness geopolitically.
Mark Geist, a Marine veteran and Benghazi annex security team member, stated that Kirby presented a biased account of the facts and contended that the U.S. aimed to conclude the war in Afghanistan to finance the conflict in Ukraine.
Geist stated that John Kirby's presentation in the press conference was a one-sided presentation of facts and falsehoods regarding the House Report on Afghanistan. He began by addressing the only thing Kirby said that was true: they pulled out of Afghanistan to start and fund the war in Ukraine, knowing that the American people would not tolerate being involved in two wars again.
The withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan has been criticized by the Biden-Harris administration, with Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, arguing that it has paved the way for adversaries such as Russia to invade Ukraine. Meanwhile, ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Israel against Hamas continue to rage on.
The failed withdrawal will be studied for generations as a failure at the National Security Council level, as stated by another veteran and author of "Crisis of Command," Stuart Scheller.
Scheller contended that Biden's declaration of the U.S.'s complete withdrawal from Afghanistan by Sept. 11, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of 9/11, was a "PR stunt."
Biden's decision to leave Bagram Air Base and abandon the Trump plan to hold key terrain in Afghanistan led to the release of 7,000 prisoners by the Taliban. He authorized a strike on the 'enemy' after a suicide attack that killed only women and children, and left billions of dollars of equipment in the hands of the Taliban, resulting in the needless murder of thousands of Afghan partners. Biden also allowed the Taliban to serve as external security.
After posting a series of viral videos criticizing the military brass for the botched withdrawal, Scheller was arrested and later discharged from the Marines.
"I am proud that I recognized the errors and inadequate planning in real-time. However, it still hurts that it led to the loss of my career. John Kirby, a former Navy admiral, embodies the group of morally weak military officers who prioritize personal advancement over honesty. These politicians in uniform consistently show that they are afraid of facing up to their failures," he stated.
Chad Robichaux, a former Force Recon Marine and an Afghanistan veteran, stated on Fox Digital that Kirby has exchanged his "commitment to the Constitution and the American people" for "devotion to the D.C. elite and political affiliations."
Biden and Harris ignored the advice of their military and intelligence advisors and decided to withdraw from Afghanistan, leaving behind Bagram Air Base, which is strategically located between Iraq, Iran, Russia, and China. This decision was made before evacuating Americans and allies, resulting in the abandonment of 20 million women and girls to be sexually enslaved. Additionally, billions of dollars in sensitive equipment and technology were left behind, as well as biometric systems that identify our allies. Since then, the United States has been paying the Taliban up to $87 million a week, mostly in cash, to jihadists sanctioned by the U.S. government, four of whom are on the FBI's top ten most wanted list.
He added that it was disgraceful for him to wear the uniform to serve and lie to the American people in order to cover up the atrocities of politicians.
Kirby's office issued a statement on Monday, confirming that he still stands by his comments made during the press conference.
Kirby stated that although not all veterans concur with his comments, he remains steadfast in his stance. The report was cherry-picked and selective, he pointed out. However, what is crucial is that America's longest war has ended, and those currently serving are better equipped to handle the threats we face today.
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Democratic Party in the House released a memo this week, responding to the Republican report that accused them of politically motivated criticism of the Biden administration's withdrawal decision.
"As Meeks wrote, when former President Trump assumed office, there were approximately 14,000 American troops in Afghanistan. Prior to leaving office, he ordered a reduction to 2,500. President Trump's withdrawal from Afghanistan was irreversible, and he initiated a withdrawal that could not be reversed without significantly increasing the number of American troops in the country to face renewed combat with the Taliban."
Veterans who were critical of the withdrawal mourned the return of Afghanistan to the hands of terrorists.
The number of Al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan has increased from 4 to 52, and the Biden-Harris White House is financing this with U.S. taxpayer dollars, according to Robichaux's comments to Fox Digital.
"John Kirby, who stated that he would never use the title 'admiral,' can you explain how this action aligns with the interests of American national security or the global community?"
Planet Chronicle Digital's Greg Wehner and Landon Mion contributed to this report.
