Biden faced criticism on social media after declaring Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday.
Biden's stance on LGBTQ+ and abortion issues has been criticized due to his religious beliefs as a 'devout Catholic'.
On Saturday, President Joe Biden and his administration faced criticism from social media users, including prominent media and political figures, for announcing that Transgender Day of Visibility would be observed on Easter Sunday.
The White House issued a statement on Transgender Day of Visibility, acknowledging the bravery and achievements of transgender Americans and pledging to uphold the principles of equality and justice for all citizens.
"Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back. NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility."
This year, Easter Sunday, which is not a fixed date, falls on March 31. Easter is a significant day for Christians, marking the resurrection of Jesus, the son of God, and celebrating his return to life.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a former presidential candidate, criticized Biden on Twitter, stating, "Joe Biden declared that 'Transgender Visibility Day' is on March 31st. I'm curious about how he arrived at that date."
Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., concurred with Ramaswamy's criticism of Biden, accusing him of a "timing coincidence."
"Joe Biden has designated Easter Sunday as 'Transgender Day of Visibility,'" Mooney wrote on X. "This is a coincidence on the timing, right? This is a direct assault on Christianity. Yet another attack on religion and traditions by this administration."
Tennessee Republican Rep. Diana Harshbarger condemned the announcement as a "blatant disregard" and stated it was "intentional."
"This is a direct attack on Christianity. It's clear that the left is determined to weaken our religion and customs," she wrote on X. "This isn't just disrespectful, it's deliberate."
Benny Johnson, a conservative commentator, posted a White House statement on social media and added, "This is a disrespectful message to all Christians in America."
Biden's stance on LGBTQ+ and abortion issues has been criticized due to his religious beliefs as a "devout Catholic" who frequently attends church. The White House has also used the same language when discussing Biden's pro-choice stance on abortion.
According to a recent poll by Pew Research, only 13% of Americans consider Biden to be "very religious," with 41% saying he is "somewhat religious" and 44% stating that he is "not at all" or "not too religious."
