Biden experiences significant advancements among key voting demographic prior to Trump debate: survey
A recent NPR/PBS News/Marist poll shows that President Biden has overtaken former President Trump in popularity among independent voters.
Independent voters view President Biden more favorably, which could impact his chances of winning in crucial battleground states this November, according to a recent NPR/PBS News/Marist poll.
Biden has narrowed his gap with Trump among independents from 12 percentage points to just 2 percentage points, now leading 50%-48% in a recent NPR/PBS News/Marist poll.
Despite a slight one percentage point lead (50%-49%) in a head-to-head matchup among voters who definitely plan to vote in the November general election, Trump and Biden are tied 49%-49% among overall registered voters, including those who say they are undecided but are leaning toward a candidate.
Despite the inclusion of several independent and third-party candidates, Trump's lead over Biden remains at one percentage point (42%-41%).
Trump has a slight advantage over Biden among voters over the age of 45, while the two are tied among voters under the age of 45. White voters favor Trump 55%-43%, while non-White voters favor Biden 58%-40%.
According to voters, Trump is perceived as better suited to handle the economy, immigration, and the U.S.'s role on the world stage, while Biden is seen as more capable of preserving democracy, protecting abortion rights, and caring about the average person.
A plurality of voters (30%) consider inflation as the top issue, while democracy (29%), immigration (18%), healthcare (8%), abortion (8%), and crime (6%) are also viewed as significant concerns.
While 55% of respondents are not satisfied with either Trump or Biden as presidential candidates, more Biden voters (58%) than Trump voters (49%) specifically indicate their dissatisfaction.
Biden's approval rating is 41% with 53% viewing him unfavorably.
Trump's underwater favorability ratings are similar, with 42% viewing him favorably and 53% unfavorably. Regarding his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records last month, 51% believe he should definitely or probably serve jail time, while 47% say he should definitely or probably not serve jail time.
On June 27, Trump and Biden will face off in a CNN-hosted debate in Atlanta for the first time in years.
