Bernie Sanders faces criticism for attributing California wildfires to climate change: "Global warming devoured my assignment"
Sanders has a history of issuing grave warnings about the impact of climate change on natural disasters.
While wildfires wreak havoc in California, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., faces criticism for advocating climate alarmism.
President-elect Donald Trump must address the "existential crisis" of climate change, as Sanders stated.
In a tweet on Wednesday morning, Sanders declared that 80,000 people have been told to evacuate, blazes are 0% contained, and the area has not seen rain for eight months. The scale of damage and loss is unimaginable, and climate change is not a hoax. Trump must treat this as an existential crisis.
Mike Solana, editor-in-chief of Pirate Wires, criticized the senator's comments, stating in a post on X, 'Global warming ate my homework' is no longer an effective argument. The politicians responsible for California's catastrophic failure to prepare for the fires, including water management, controlled burns, and the fire department's budget, are all Democrats.
Wildfires, including those larger than this, have been occurring in California for a long time, according to conservative commentator and author Justin Haskins, who is the director of the Socialism Research Center at the Heartland Institute.
Nicole Shanahan, who was Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s presidential running mate last year, also responded to Sanders' comments.
"State mismanagement is real, Bernie," she noted.
Sanders has long issued such dire warnings.
"In a tweet in February 2019, he stated that climate change is an existential threat to the world and that we must shift our energy system from fossil fuels to energy efficiency and sustainable energy. He argued that a Green New Deal could save the planet and create millions of new jobs."
Elon Musk, a business tycoon, has claimed that regulations hinder efforts to prevent California wildfires.
Musk stated in a post on X that climate change risk is real, but much slower than alarmists claim. The primary cause of the immense loss of homes in LA is due to nonsensical overregulation that prevented creating fire breaks and doing brush clearing, as well as bad governance at the state and local level that resulted in a shortage of water.
Other left-wing lawmakers, like Sanders, used the climate narrative during the disaster.
"Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, expressed her heartbreak over the ongoing devastation affecting her country and the world, as well as the incompetence of elected leaders in addressing climate change. In a tweet, she called out California for staying safe and thanked first responders for their selflessness. However, she also emphasized the need for elected officials to actually work towards finding solutions rather than just joining in prayers."
Describing the fire as a climate catastrophe, Freshman Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del., the first transgender-identifying member of Congress, stated that it is a clear indication of the urgent need for climate action.
McBride declared on X that he is praying for the victims of the raging fires in Los Angeles, which have resulted in the loss of life, homes, businesses, and entire neighborhoods. He stands ready to work with his colleagues representing these communities to ensure they have the resources they need to contain the fires, recover, rebuild, and prevent future climate catastrophes.
Trump has declared that California Gov. Gavin Newsom should resign.
Trump declared on Truth Social late Wednesday night that one of the best and most beautiful parts of the United States of America is burning down to the ground. He added that Gavin Newscum should resign and that this is all his fault.
On Wednesday evening, Newsom stated on X, "People are fleeing, schools are closed, churches are destroyed, homes are lost, and some have died. Yet, the President-Elect is politicizing it. Our focus remains on saving lives and controlling these unprecedented fires."
The Lidia and Hurst fires are partially contained according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), while others are listed as having 0% containment on fire.ca.gov.
