On Sunday, Ben Carson confirmed that he plans to speak with President-elect Donald Trump about rumors of him joining the second Trump administration as the U.S. surgeon general, but he remained silent on the matter.
On Sunday, Carson, who was the secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from 2017 to 2021 during the first Trump administration, refuted the untrue rumors in a post on Reddit.
The retired neurosurgeon wrote that he was thrilled to discuss with President Trump how he would further the America First agenda and that they would meet soon.
"Despite rumors, I will not be assuming the role of Surgeon General."
Carson, a vocal critic of the Biden administration and a supporter of Trump, congratulated the Republican leader on his landslide victory in the Nov. 5 election.

The U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is headed by the U.S. surgeon general, who is a high-ranking role within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
"The Surgeon General is the U.S. government's chief medical officer, responsible for providing Americans with the best scientific information on health and injury prevention. Additionally, the Surgeon General oversees the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a group of over 6,000 uniformed officers who are dedicated to public health."
As several positions in Trump's incoming Cabinet remain undecided, including secretary of transportation, secretary of commerce, and secretary of the treasury, Carson's comments have emerged.
Trump has not yet announced his selections for HUD secretary, secretary of agriculture, and secretary of education.
On Saturday, Trump announced that Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy, will join his Cabinet as the secretary of energy. Trump described Wright as a "prominent innovator and businessman in the energy sector."
