Before his inauguration, Trump pays tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The Trump inauguration is scheduled for Monday.
On Sunday, the day before his return to the White House, President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
Prior to his return to office, Trump attended a series of events in Washington.
The president-elect's wife, Melania Trump, and his children Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump, and Ivanka Trump were present, as were Vance's wife, Usha Vance.
Several of Trump's cabinet nominees were present in the crowd, including Pete Hegseth, his choice for defense secretary; Marco Rubio, his pick for secretary of state; Tulsi Gabbard, his choice for director of national intelligence; and Elise Stefanik, his choice for United Nations ambassador.
In a solemn manner, Trump and Vance each placed a wreath on an easel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, surrounded by a silent crowd in the midst of drizzly rain.
During the ceremony, Vance held a hand over his heart while Trump saluted.
The two left Arlington National Cemetery once the ceremony was complete.
On Sunday evening, a "MAGA Victory" rally will be held at Capitol One Arena by Trump.
