At the UN ambassador hearing, Stefanik criticizes Dem for accusing Elon Musk of giving a Nazi salute.
Rep. Elise Stefanik stated that Elon Musk did not perform those salutes.
During her confirmation hearing to become the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik was questioned by Democratic Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy about her claims that Elon Musk gave a Nazi salute at President Donald Trump's inaugural parade.
Did you see Elon Musk, the president's most prominent advisor, give two Nazi salutes during the televised rally last night?
Elon Musk did not do those salutes, according to Stefanik. Although I was not present at the rally, I have attended many rallies with Elon Musk, who is known for cheering when President Trump talks about sending the U.S. space program to Mars. Elon Musk is a visionary, and I am excited to see his work in the Department of Government Efficiency with DOGE.
On Monday, Trump's inaugural parade was attended by Musk, who spoke to supporters and was accused of giving a Hitler-style salute.
Musk has dismissed the accusations as a stale attack from the left, stating on X that "they need to come up with better dirty tricks."
The New York Republican stated, 'The American people are intelligent and can see through it. They support Elon Musk. Our country's success as a hub for entrepreneurs is one of our greatest strengths as Americans.'
Stefanik was repeatedly questioned by Murphy about the Hitler salute gesture, with a list of "White supremacist groups and neo-Nazi groups" being cited as having praised it.
""Last night, neo-Nazi and White supremacist groups in the country gathered around a visual, and it is concerning that they believe it was a neo-Nazi salute," Murphy stated."
Trump and Stefanik both have a history of fighting against antisemitism.
"My main concern is that these are the questions you believe are most important to ask the U.N. ambassador," she said. "I have a strong track record of fighting antisemitism. Our recent election saw President Trump receive historic support from American voters due to his leadership in combating this issue, which has been a growing problem in the country since October 7th. As a voice for moral clarity, I plan to continue speaking out against antisemitism at the United Nations, reflecting President Trump's commitment to this issue and the promises he made during the campaign."
According to Murphy, he inquired about Musk's gesture because he believes that the administration's work on antisemitism will only have real impact and credibility if it holds both the right and left accountable.
"If a member of the Squad made the same gesture last night, there would be commentary from you and others, and I want to ensure that our work has credibility, which requires calling out antisemitism and antisemitic behavior from both the right and the left."
