George W. Bush, born on July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, served as the 43rd President of the United States.

George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush had five children, including Jeb, Marvin, Neil, Dorothy, and Pauline. Sadly, Pauline passed away at the young age of three after being diagnosed with leukemia.

He was formerly the Republican Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000.

Bush served as President of the United States for two terms, first being elected in November 2000 and officially beginning his first term in January 2001. He defeated Democrat Al Gore in the presidential election. Bush was reelected in November 2004, defeating Democrat John Kerry, and led the country until January 2009 when he passed the presidency on to Barack Obama.

On November 5, 1977, Laura Bush turned 31 and married George Bush, whom she had met at a barbecue and dated for less than two months. The couple exchanged vows in a Methodist church in Midland, Texas, the day after her birthday.

The Bush family has two daughters, Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager, who were born on November 25, 1981. They also have four grandchildren, Mila, Poppy, Hal, and Cora.

Spot Fetcher, an English springer spaniel born to Millie, was cared for by Bush during his presidency and accompanied him to meetings in the Oval Office and on adventures throughout the White House.

On September 11, 2001, less than a year into his presidency, George W. Bush was in Sarasota, Florida, reading to elementary school children when terrorists attacked the Twin Towers in New York City. Airplanes struck both buildings, causing them to collapse and resulting in thousands of deaths. Bush was informed of the attacks while he was at the school and returned to Washington, D.C. to be briefed alongside Vice President Dick Cheney.

Bush was highly respected for his composure during the attacks and for his patriotic and leadership actions in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

On December 30, 2003, during his first term as President of the United States, George W. Bush, the Iraqi leader and perpetrator of the 9/11 attacks on the U.S., was captured by the American military.

On December 30, 2006, during Bush's presidency, Hussein was hanged and executed for his crimes against humanity. The execution was celebrated by Americans across the nation, who applauded Bush for fulfilling his promise to remove Hussein from power.

Despite Bush's efforts to combat terrorism, many Americans were dissatisfied with his administration's policies on interrogation techniques, the war in Iraq, taxes, and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.
