As LA residents demand accountability, Karen Bass' 2021 tweet resurfaces to haunt her.
Criticism of Bass's leadership has intensified following her Ghana trip, where she faced condemnation.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing criticism for her trip to Ghana during a time when her city was battling devastating wildfires. Meanwhile, a 2021 tweet she posted criticizing Sen. Ted Cruz for taking his family to Cancun, Mexico, during a severe winter storm in Texas has resurfaced.
Despite leaving for Ghana before the wildfires began, Mayor Bass faced criticism for her leadership and was accused of being hypocritical by social media users.
Numerous social media users criticized the mayor's tweet, stating that it did not "age well," and advised her to remove the nearly 4-year-old post.
Trump accused Bass and Newsom of incompetence on Truth Social, claiming that their actions led to the spread of wildfires.
Over 2,000 homes, businesses and other structures have been damaged or destroyed by the raging wildfires in California, which have claimed five lives and put thousands under evacuation orders as of Thursday morning.
Bass was questioned by a reporter about her trip to Ghana upon her return, but she kept quiet. Despite being asked if she regretted cutting the city's Fire Department's budget last year, Bass remained silent. However, during a news conference on Wednesday, Bass revealed that she took the fastest route back, which included being on a military plane. She also stated that she was able to stay connected to her phone the entire time of the flight.
As Texans faced a deadly winter storm that left millions without power, Cruz flew to Mexico.
"Due to school being canceled for the week, our girls requested to go on a trip with friends. As a responsible father, I flew down with them last night and will return this afternoon. My team and I are in constant contact with state and local leaders to determine the cause of the power outages, water shortages, and cold temperatures in Texas. We are committed to restoring power, ensuring access to clean water, and keeping Texans informed and safe."
Cruz later admitted that the trip was a "mistake."
