At least five residents tackled him to the ground while he held a torch head and a yellow fuel tank.
According to ICE, Fox has been informed that Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva, a Mexican illegal immigrant, is in custody for a probation violation and has not been charged with arson.
ICE plans to request that they be notified if he is released, so they can take him into custody and possibly deport him. However, they anticipate that this request will not be honored because California is a "sanctuary" state that generally restricts cooperation between local and state law enforcement and ICE.
It's not rare for individuals to intentionally set wildfires, according to a source from the Los Angeles law enforcement.
The source stated that when wind conditions are like this, it brings out the sickos who are serial arsonists. However, there is no confirmed link between arson and any of the fires as of last week.
The Trump administration is predicted to initiate a large-scale deportation operation once it assumes power next week, making illegal immigration a major political concern.
While some states have agreed to collaborate with the operation, others have declared they will not participate and may even actively oppose it.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams wants to collaborate with the incoming administration on deporting violent criminals. However, the Trump administration may face challenges in California, where a sanctuary state law exists and local jurisdictions are taking steps to limit ICE cooperation.
