An election judge in Minnesota is accused of committing a felony by accepting unregistered votes.
It is claimed that Timothy Michael Scouton permitted individuals to sign the back of books rather than the appropriate documents.
An election judge from Minnesota is facing charges for accepting unregistered voters in the 2024 election.
According to a report from Fox 9, Timothy Michael Scouton, the head election judge for the Badoura Township Precinct in Hubbard County, Minnesota, is being charged with two felonies: accepting the vote of an unregistered voter and neglect of duty by an election official.
An election auditor informed police that 11 voters did not properly fill out registration forms but were still allowed to vote.
Despite Scouton's reported completion of election judge training and head election judge training in July, those votes were still allowed, according to the report.
On the night of the election, Scouton spoke with another judge who worked with her, instructing her not to use the proper registration forms. Another judge who worked with Scouton also told police that she was not aware of the proper forms and was instructed by Scouton to have voters sign the back of a book.
The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office arrested Scouton, who refused to give a statement.
The Minnesota Secretary of State recognized the gravity of the accusations against Scouton.
"The Secretary of State's office stated that the allegations are serious and must be thoroughly investigated. Election judges are required to administer elections in accordance with the law, and any deliberate failure to do so is unlawful and a betrayal of public trust. Minnesota's elections depend on the dedication and public service of 30,000 people, who must conduct their work fairly, impartially, and within the law. The Hubbard County Auditor promptly notified local authorities of any uncovered discrepancies so they could investigate."
