Amid criticism from Trump, Project 2025 leader resigns.
The leader of the Heritage project, Paul Dans, will be leaving the team and taking on a new role.
The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 leader has resigned due to ongoing criticism from former President Trump and Democrats' persistent attempts to link Trump's campaign to the project.
The Presidential Transition Project, launched in April 2022, is a blueprint for the Republican administration to restructure various parts of the U.S. government, as proposed by Heritage. Despite being named after Trump's campaign, it is not affiliated with it.
The 900-page conservative plan to steer voters away from a second Trump administration was deemed "absolutely ridiculous and abysmal" by Trump as the Biden campaign zeroed in.
On Monday, Heritage president Kevin Roberts confirmed that Paul Dans, the project's leader, would be stepping down.
"Paul Dans led Project 2025 to achieve its goal of uniting over 110 conservative organizations, devolving power from the administrative state, and returning it to the people. The tool created by Project 2025 can be used by any future administration," said Roberts.
We commenced Project 2025 in April 2022 and established a timeline for the project to end with the completion of its policy drafting after the two party conventions this year. Despite this, we are adhering to the set timeline. Paul, who constructed the project from scratch and fearlessly led the team over the past two years, will be leaving the team and moving up to the front where the battle continues.
"We are deeply grateful for his and everyone's contributions to Project 2025 and their commitment to safeguarding America. Our collaborative efforts to establish a robust policy apparatus for policymakers at all levels – federal, state, and local – will persist," he stated.
