On Thursday, Kelly Ayotte will be inaugurated as the new governor of the United States at the New Hampshire State House.

A former U.S. senator, who had previously served as a state attorney general, assumes office in a crucial New England swing state just over a week before President-elect Trump's inauguration.

Gov. Ayotte, who succeeds Gov. Sununu, says she looks forward to working with the Trump administration.

In a national exclusive interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Ayotte stated that she will collaborate with the administration to represent New Hampshire's interests and prioritize the state's safety. She emphasized the importance of advocating for federal resources on behalf of the Granite State.

In the 2018 gubernatorial race, where Ayotte emerged victorious over the Democrat nominee and former Manchester mayor Joyce Craig by almost 10 percentage points in November's election, the topic of illegal immigration and border security frequently took center stage in a state that borders Canada and has been grappling with a severe fentanyl epidemic for years.

Ayotte, who promised to prevent New Hampshire from becoming a sanctuary state for illegal migrants, will now have a Republican in the White House.

"It's crucial that President Trump enforces the laws, especially with our northern border."

As a former state attorney general, Ayotte emphasized the importance of holding criminals accountable. She stated that New Hampshire would not become a sanctuary state and that enforcing laws was crucial. While legal immigration is welcomed, those who enter the country illegally and commit crimes must be held responsible.

In 2010, Ayotte was elected to the U.S. Senate and was viewed as a rising star in the GOP, with a reputation as a leader on national security and foreign policy.

In 2016, Gov. Maggie Hassan defeated Ayotte in a close election by a margin of just over 1,000 votes.

As she assumes the role of Governor of New Hampshire, she stated that her top priority is to serve as a governor for all residents of the state, ensuring accessibility to the people of New Hampshire.

On day one, my priorities will be to ensure the continued growth of our economy, prosperity, and freedom in New Hampshire. This will involve creating a responsible budget that allows us to live within our means while effectively serving the people of New Hampshire.

Ayotte on being first woman Republican governor of her state

In November, Ayotte became the first Republican woman to win election as New Hampshire governor, following her groundbreaking tenure as the state's first female attorney general nearly two decades ago.

""Great women and men have led in this state, with a rich history," Ayotte stated."

Her hope is that every young girl recognizes that she can achieve any position she desires, regardless of gender, and that the discussions about women's election are no longer necessary because equality has been achieved, as observed in New Hampshire.
