Although Walz's running mate has a highly liberal record, the majority of the media are still supporting him.
Minnesota Gov. Walz viewed through a different lens by critics
The largely unknown Minnesota governor, Tim Walz, was picked by Kamala Harris when she was announced as Joe Biden's vice presidential running mate.
Despite being considered the favorite, Josh Shapiro did not win the governor's race in Pennsylvania.
The majority of the media praised Walz as a running mate, lauding his persona as a former football coach, pheasant hunter, and embodiment of rural America, who was unpretentious, funny, and didn't need a teleprompter.
Harris referred to Walz as a spouse, parent, educator, and embodiment of traditional values, consistently addressing him as Coach.
The Trump campaign can portray the new ticket as the most liberal in American history due to the criticism received from those who opposed the choice's policies in Minnesota.
Of course, politics involves both policy and personality, and sometimes personality can be decisive, as seen with the intense loyalty of MAGA voters towards Trump.
Harris may have had a blind spot for her new partner's liberal views, as she opted for someone even more left-leaning than herself instead of choosing a more moderate option.
If Shapiro had received 10,000 more votes, he might have won Pennsylvania and the election, but there will still be second-guessing about bypassing him.
But now lots of folks are scrambling aboard the Walz-wagon.
M.J. Lee, a senior White House correspondent for CNN, described someone who represents the strong, determined, and patriotic spirit of the middle class in Walz.
MSNBC's Jonathan Lemire believes that it is appropriate to focus on Joe Biden's biography, as he possesses a folksy Midwestern charm.
Molly Jong-Fast of Vanity Fair describes him as a rural American success story who enjoys ice fishing, butter carving, and other hobbies.
At their Philadelphia kickoff, both Walz and Harris delivered impressive speeches, with Walz's personal story featuring 24 years in the National Guard.
But critics see him very differently.
Mollie Hemingway, Federalist Editor-in-Chief: "Tim Walz is widely recognized as a highly progressive leftist."
Jesse Watters of FOX: "This man is not the typical Minnesota Nice, but rather Minnesota Nuts. He advocates for sanctuary cities, driver's licenses for illegals, and sanctuary cities for sex changes for children."
While the majority of voices on CNN were in agreement, conservative Scott Jennings posed a dissenting view, questioning, "Is it normal for a governor to allow their largest city to burn for four days, resulting in the destruction of thousands of businesses and hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage, without taking any action?"
The Minneapolis riots following George Floyd's murder revealed that Walz had made a mistake in managing the violence by delaying the deployment of the National Guard.
Walz has earned street cred with the Kamala administration by branding the opposition as "weird" in his TV appearances, which has become a signature line for the Democrats.
Yesterday, on "Fox & Friends," Trump stated that Harris is a "radical leftist," but Walz is a "smarter version" of her.
He posted: "What are the chances that Joe Biden, the worst president in U.S. history, whose presidency was stolen by Kamala, Obama, Pelosi, Schiff, Schumer, and other leftists, crashes the Democratic National Convention and tries to regain the nomination?"
The pro-Hamas faction within the Democratic Party played a significant role in Shapiro's defeat, despite his pro-Israel stance being similar to many others in the party. As a Jew, he was particularly vulnerable to criticism.
Politico and other sources report that Harris' Sunday interview with Shapiro did not go well, and he communicated that he was struggling to decide whether to leave the governorship. Additionally, Shapiro's numerous questions about his authority irritated the campaign.
Harris felt more comfortable with Walz because he said he was content with playing a secondary role and had no aspirations beyond being VP.
Yesterday, JD Vance held a news conference in Wisconsin and criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for not having done a single interview, despite briefly speaking to reporters off the record on Tuesday.
Will Walz be permitted to continue conducting interviews with journalists, including those on Fox? If so, he will likely face numerous questions about the reasons behind his past positions' significant shift and his avoidance of the press, a criticism frequently directed at Biden but which journalists have largely overlooked when it comes to Harris.
