"In June 2023, Gallup surveyed Americans to evaluate Carter's presidency and found that 57% approved of his job performance while 36% disapproved. This places Carter's retrospective approval in the bottom half of presidents, above Nixon and Trump, but similar to George W. Bush and Bill Clinton."
In 2002, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his relentless pursuit of peaceful resolutions to international conflicts, the promotion of democracy and human rights, and the enhancement of economic and social development.
In the fall of 2002, while President George W. Bush was planning war on Iraq, a Plains, Georgia, native worked for social welfare, campaigned for human rights, and undertook peace negotiations.
"The Nobel Prize website states that the Chairman of the Nobel Committee believes Carter should have received the Prize in 1978 for his successful mediation of a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. The Carter Center, founded by Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn in 1982, has been a leader in election observation, monitoring over 113 elections in Africa, Latin America, and Asia since 1989. Additionally, the organization's recent public health campaign resulted in only 14 human cases of Guinea worm disease being reported in all of 2021, a significant achievement due to years of efforts to improve access to safe drinking water in Africa.
As a Reagan biographer and historian, Craig Shirley stated that Carter will be remembered as one of the top ex-presidents of the 20th century due to his humanitarian work.
