A top aide to Harris invoked a radical activist who made the controversial statement "America deserved 9/11" while strategizing for the Democrats.
Earlier this year, a House Democrat labeled Hasan Piker as a "poster child for the post-October 7th outbreak of antisemitism in America."
A top aide on Vice President Harris' failed presidential campaign recently suggested bringing in more cultural voices like Hasan Piker, a vocal anti-America and anti-Israel Twitch star who previously faced criticism for saying that "America deserved 9/11."
In a recent interview, Rob Flaherty, Harris' former deputy campaign manager, stated that Democrats are losing their grip on culture and proposed a strategy for them to establish a "thriving system" before future elections.
"Flaherty emphasized to Semafor that a thriving ecosystem is necessary, not just limited to Pod Save America or Hasan Piker. He suggested having more of both, as well as cultural creators who influence the nonpartisan audience. All of these elements should occur simultaneously."
"It's not going to be large media organizations; instead, it will be a collection of individual personalities forming a network, as that's how people obtain information now," he stated.
Flaherty, who previously served as the director of digital strategy for the Biden White House, is likely to face criticism for advocating for "more Hasan Pikers" due to Piker's history of controversial comments. Piker, who has raised more than $1 million for Palestinian aid, has used his platform with millions of followers to downplay and justify terrorist attacks such as Oct. 7 and 9/11 as acts of resistance in recent years.
In a 2019 livestream, Piker commended the "brave soldier" who injured conservative U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw while serving as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan, saying, "Didn't he go to war and, like, literally lose his eye because some brave soldier, a soldier, f---ed his eyehole with their d---?"
Piker made a joke about 9/11 in another stream this year, saying, "Oh my god, 9/11 2 is going to be so sick" and "give Saudi Arabia a nuke so they can do 9/11 2."
The streamer expressed sympathy and admiration for the Houthis, an Iranian-backed group in Yemen that has been designated by the U.S. as a terrorist group, rather than explicitly addressing the materials as questionable propaganda.
"Piker stated that the terrorists frequently create musicals about their actions, and they enjoy parading with the American and Israeli flags side by side."
"They will take the war to them no matter what, as it's an act of resistance for them. You know what I mean?" he added.
"Piker stated in a May 22 stream that the occurrence of f---ing rapes on Oct. 7 does not affect the dynamic between Palestinians and Israelis for him."
In an April 18 stream, Piker stated that Hamas was the "lesser evil" compared to the Israeli military.
Rep. Ritchie Torres of New York wrote a letter to Twitch and Amazon executives expressing concern about the amplification of antisemitism on Twitch due to Hasan Piker's actions. Piker has become a symbol of the post-October 7th outbreak of antisemitism in America.
"Inviting followers to shoot an elected official, whether in jest or in earnest, is a threat that warrants serious attention from federal law enforcement."
Piker's Twitch streams frequently attract more than a million views and can have up to 30,000 viewers simultaneously.
Flaherty was contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital but did not respond with a comment.
