A survey reveals that over half of Harris voters are considering moving away after Trump's victory.
Over half of Harris voters are considering relocating after Trump's election on Tuesday.
A survey by StorageUnits.com found that over half of Vice President Kamala Harris's voters want to relocate following a potential 2024 presidential victory by Donald Trump.
A survey of 1,837 Harris voters on Nov. 6 revealed the number of people who would like to relocate and those who actually plan to, as well as the top concerns of those who voted against Trump.
Those surveyed indicated that 44% would like to relocate, but are unlikely to do so, while 5% are certain they will move and another 5% are unsure. The reasons given by those who would like to move but won't include financial constraints, family and community ties.
Those who are planning to move or seriously considering it are mostly looking into relocating to another country, with Canada, the United Kingdom and Mexico being the top choices. For those considering moving to another state, the top three choices are California, New York and Colorado.
The top three reasons Harris voters want to relocate, according to a survey, are worries about a federal abortion ban being enacted, an increase in racial inequality, and the potential overturning of progressive rights.
Despite Trump's statement that he would not enact a federal abortion ban and his agreement that the decision should be left in the states' hands after Roe v. Wade was overturned, many Dem voters remain concerned about abortion access at the federal level.
Other areas of concern include: reduction in healthcare access, increased social inequality, lack of gun regulation, and the weakening of public education.
Realtor Jo Ann Bauer stated that some Harris voters who are experiencing fear, anxiety, and concern following the election results may shift from a red to a blue state with friendlier LGBTQ+ and/or less restrictive abortion laws. However, there are a number of factors influencing any potential moves, such as cost of living, job availability, and housing prices.
When compared to Millennials, Gen Xers and Boomers, the highest percentage of Harris voters who will definitely or probably move is found among Gen Z.
About 30% of Gen Z participants reported having "no interest in moving."
Trump won the 2024 election with a decisive margin, receiving at least 301 electoral votes while Harris received 226, and Trump also won the popular vote by more than 5 million votes.
