A report states that Pelosi is working to undermine Biden's efforts to end discussions about his candidacy.
According to reports, Pelosi is encouraging legislators to evaluate whether Biden is the strongest Democratic contender to vanquish Trump.
While publicly supporting President Biden's decision to run for re-election, former House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is reportedly privately urging lawmakers to keep pushing for him to reconsider his decision.
Pelosi is advising House Democrats not to rally to Biden before there is a broader discussion on his candidacy, while also reportedly telling vulnerable lawmakers in swing districts to urge him to step aside if they believe it will aid their re-election chances.
"One House Democratic lawmaker said to The Hill that they had a conversation with her and she expressed great concern, stating, "It’s not like she’s like, ‘We’re sticking with this guy.'""
The report granted anonymity to lawmakers so they could speak candidly about sensitive discussions during their conference.
Another Democrat reportedly stated that they had their own discussions with her.
The stakes are high, and we must have our best chance to win, the lawmaker conveyed, quoting Pelosi's message to the conference, as reported by The Hill.
Biden has been Pelosi's ally for a long time. Pelosi served as House speaker for the first two years of his presidency and led House Democrats throughout his two terms as vice president. During this time, she helped pass major pieces of Biden's agenda, including the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan infrastructure law.
Pelosi has repeatedly stated that Trump poses an existential threat to democracy and must be defeated in November, but Democrats are uncertain if Biden can accomplish this feat.
The report stated that Pelosi's actions were a reaction to the Biden campaign and White House's response to criticisms of the president's poor debate performance on June 27, where they denied any issues with Biden's age or mental abilities and continued to insist that Democrats had no other options.
During a news conference on Thursday, Biden reassured that he is capable of leading Democrats to victory in the election and maintaining the presidency, despite concerns about his age and mental abilities.
"I'm determined on running," Biden declared.
"Is my job performance satisfactory? Can you identify someone who has passed more significant legislation in 3.5 years? Last week, I created 2,000 jobs. If I slow down, I won't be able to complete my task, which would indicate that I shouldn't be doing it. However, there is no indication of this yet."
On Monday, the president sent a letter to congressional Democrats stating that criticisms of his candidacy only benefit Trump and harm us. However, despite his efforts to intimidate Democratic lawmakers, dissent has not been silenced. Instead, it seems to have empowered those who believe Biden is not taking his critics seriously.
"A third Democratic lawmaker told The Hill that Pelosi's statement reflects the belief that in order to effectively circle the wagons, a larger number of wagons are needed in the circle. The lawmaker emphasized the importance of having an open and honest conversation with people to make a decision together, rather than presenting them with a judgment."
Neither Pelosi's office nor the White House and Biden campaign responded promptly to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiries.
According to The Hill, Speaker Pelosi's spokesman Ian Krager stated that she fully supports whatever President Biden decides to do. The focus should be on why this election is crucial: Donald Trump poses a threat to our country and democracy.
Pelosi hinted that there is still uncertainty about Biden's re-election plans, even though he has repeatedly stated that he intends to run again.
"Pelosi stated on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that it is up to the president to decide whether he will run, and that everyone is urging him to make that decision because time is running out. She emphasized that the president is loved, respected, and wanted to make the decision."
Pelosi reiterated that Biden has not yet made a final decision about running for president.
Pelosi stated that she wants him to do whatever he decides and that they will go with it, regardless of the decision.
Despite private discussions, Pelosi publicly contradicted the president and paved the way for other Democrats to follow suit. At least 17 Democratic lawmakers have openly called on Biden to withdraw from the nomination. The debate is ongoing, and Biden's future remains uncertain.
