As President Biden prepares to leave office, a recent national poll shows that his approval ratings remain below average.

According to a recent CNN poll conducted by SSRS, only 36% of Americans approve of the job Biden is doing in the White House, while 64% disapprove. This approval rating is consistent with the president's previous low mark in CNN's polling during his single term in office.

On Wednesday, the poll was released, coinciding with the president's farewell address, which was scheduled for the same evening. With only a few days remaining before Biden's term ends and Trump assumes the presidency, the poll was released.

According to recent national polls by USA Today/Suffolk University and Marist College, Biden's approval rating is 43%, which is slightly positive but still in negative territory. This is consistent with the CNN survey conducted earlier this month.

Many Americans view Biden's presidency as a failure, according to a trio of polls.

In a CNN survey, 38% of respondents viewed Biden's presidency as a success, while 61% considered it a failure.

A USA Today/Suffolk University survey released on Tuesday found that 44% of registered voters believe history will judge Biden as a failed president, while 27% believe he will be seen as a fair president. Only 21% of those surveyed think history will view Biden as a good president, with just 5% believing he will be remembered as a great president.

A third of adults surveyed in a Marist poll released on Wednesday said that Biden would be remembered as one of the worst presidents in American history, with 19% classifying him as a below-average president.

A majority of participants (71%) believe that Biden's legacy will be below average, with only 19% considering him to be above average or among the greatest presidents in U.S. history.

Biden's Oval Office speech will likely focus on solidifying his legacy as a leader who stabilized domestic politics and strengthened America's global leadership, while also leading the country out of the COVID-19 pandemic and making significant investments in infrastructure, clean energy, and prescription drug affordability.

In a letter to Americans, Biden highlighted that when he assumed office in 2017, the country was facing the worst pandemic in a century, the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.

He boasted that our economy is the strongest in the world, with 16.6 million new jobs created and wages on the rise. Inflation is decreasing, and the racial wealth gap has reached its lowest point in 20 years.

During his first six months in office, Biden's approval rating remained low to mid-50s. However, his numbers began to decline in August 2021 due to criticism of his handling of the U.S. exit from Afghanistan and a surge in COVID-19 cases that summer, primarily among unvaccinated individuals.

The decline in the president's approval rating was caused by rising inflation, which began in the summer of 2021 and remains a significant financial concern for Americans, as well as the influx of migrants attempting to enter the U.S. through the southern border.

In the autumn of 2021, Biden's approval ratings sank below zero and remained negative.

On Monday, Jan. 20, Trump will be inaugurated as Biden's successor, marking the end of the president's single term in the White House.

A USA Today/Suffolk University poll shows that 44% of respondents believe Trump will be remembered as a failed president.

19% of respondents considered Trump a good president, while 27% believed he would be viewed as a fair one.

Trump's approval ratings were below 50% in his final year of office, with a 47% rating in a Planet Chronicle poll from four years ago.

In a Marist poll conducted four years ago, 47% of respondents believed that Trump, who was finishing his first term, would be remembered as one of the country's worst presidents.

With the upcoming presidency of Trump, a Marist poll shows that 44% of Americans view him positively while 49% hold a negative opinion.

Since Trump's victory in the presidential election in November, polls have shown a rise in opinions about his first term. After Biden dropped out of the race, Vice President Harris became the Democrats' 2024 standard-bearer in July.

According to the poll, Americans have high expectations for Trump's performance in the economy.

Despite the general dissatisfaction of Americans with the current economy, the poll showed that people have become more optimistic about their own financial future.

Undocumented immigrants are a topic of division among Americans regarding Trump's proposed mass deportations.

Over 60% of people surveyed do not support Trump's plan to pardon his supporters who were found guilty of participating in the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

A Marist poll was conducted from January 7th to 9th, involving 1,387 adults nationwide. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
