A new poll shows that Vice President Kamala Harris has closed the enthusiasm gap with former President Trump among Democrats, as their confidence surges following the Chicago convention.
A poll conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University shows Joe Biden leading Donald Trump 48% to 43% among likely voters, with a margin of error that encompasses the lead.
In the poll, the swing toward Democrats extended to the down ballot, with 48% of likely voters planning to vote for the Democratic candidate in their local congressional election, compared to 43% for Republicans. This represents a seven-point shift from earlier this year, when Republicans had a slight 47-45 edge over Democrats.
A USA Today poll surveyed 1,000 likely voters via landline and cellphone from Aug. 25-28, following the Democratic National Convention, with a margin of error of 3.1 points.
In recent weeks, Democrats have shown more confidence in their vote for Harris, with 87% saying they are certain he will win in November, while only 76% of Republicans are confident in their vote for Trump.
The swing in confidence for both parties has been significant since a few weeks ago, with 88% of Republicans now unsure about Trump's victory and 73% of Democrats uncertain about Biden's victory.
Trump's campaign has highlighted their satisfaction with the current poll position, emphasizing that the former president has a track record of exceeding public opinion surveys.
