A former Trump HHS official has been appointed as RFK Jr's chief of staff, according to a report.
During President-elect Donald Trump's first administration, Heather Flick held several prominent positions at HHS.
A report on Monday indicated that Harmeet Dhillon, a Trump loyalist, was appointed as the chief of staff to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is the nominee for Health and Human Services Secretary, by President-elect Donald Trump's transition team.
Heather Flick, a lawyer who previously held top positions at the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department during the first Trump administration, has been serving as an informal chief of staff to Kennedy in recent weeks, according to Politico. Sources familiar with the matter have revealed that she has been chosen by Trump's transition team to fill the role permanently, although an official announcement has not yet been made public.
The law firm that currently employs Flick, as well as its founder, congratulated her on the new position this week on their social media accounts. However, Planet Chronicle Digital was unable to confirm the news with the Trump-Vance transition team before publication.
Flick's appointment to work in Trump's second administration is the latest in a series of Trump loyalists who have been given jobs in the administration during his second term. Prior to her current role, Flick served as HHS' acting general counsel, acting secretary for administration, and senior adviser to then-HHS Secretary Alex Azar.
Prior to joining HHS for the first time, Flick worked as an attorney at Dhillon Law Group, a law firm founded by Dhillon, who has been appointed by Trump as his assistant attorney general this time around.
Dhillon has represented clients in significant conservative civil rights cases and defended Trump supporters in court. She challenged Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom's stay-at-home orders during the pandemic and served as the co-chairwoman of Lawyers For Trump, a conservative group of lawyers supporting Trump throughout the 2020 election. Recently, Dhillon helped lead Trump's election integrity team in Arizona during the 2024 election.
Michael Flynn, former Trump National Security Adviser, praised Heather Flick's outstanding qualities and predicted that she would excel as Secretary of Health and Human Services under Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a post on X after the news of her new role.
According to Politico, there are murmurs among some of Kennedy's allies that he may advance an agenda that is not entirely aligned with the Trump administration, but rather more focused on Kennedy's own priorities.
Recently, the potential HHS secretary has been holding meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to gain support. While Democrats and Republicans have both criticized the HHS secretary-nominee's stance on vaccines, Republicans have also been questioning Kennedy about his past pro-choice views on abortion during these meetings.
Kennedy's critics have questioned his ability to handle major crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and have suggested that he pushes conspiracy theories about vaccines and antidepressants. Meanwhile, business leaders have expressed concern about past claims Kennedy has made about the dangers of food additives, pesticides, and vaccines.
The former Food and Drug Administration Official, who requested anonymity, stated to Politico that the level of involvement of HHS Secretaries in the agency's work can make the chief of staff extremely busy.
"If a chief of staff is effective, they can be highly involved in high-profile things, as the former official stated. This has been observed across multiple administrations."
