A large alligator was discovered in a shallow drainage ditch on Eagle Dr. by a Mont Belvieu Police Department officer on Monday, June 3, according to Brian Ligon, communications and marketing director for the City of Mont Belvieu, who shared the information via email with Planet Chronicle Digital.
"He contacted dispatch to request animal control, but since the gator was large, he suggested contacting public works for their grapple truck."
Over 1.3 million views and 5,900 reactions have been achieved by the viral video on Facebook.
"See ya later, alligator!" the city posted on Facebook.
"Animal Control and Public Works collaborated to remove a 12 ft. gator from a ditch on Eagle Drive using a grapple truck. Well done, team!"
The game warden was summoned to assist in removing the reptile from the area.
Mont Belvieu Public Works staff employed a grapple truck to remove the gator from the ditch bank and relocate it farther away from the sidewalk and burgeoning neighborhood, as stated by Ligon.
After the large animal was successfully removed from the area, the game warden oversaw the reptile's relocation.
One user exclaimed, "That's a MONSTER! Well done!" and added a clapping emoji.
Another user commented on how the gator was peacefully lounging.
One Facebook user shared the need to rename their machine, which they referred to as "The Gator Getter."
Ligon observed that although alligators are commonly found in our region, we rarely see gators of this magnitude in densely populated areas.
He added much less in a shallow ditch along our main thoroughfare through town.
