Just in time, a kitten from New Jersey was rescued from a waste compactor.
'Squishy,' the kitten, is thriving in her foster care.
A kitten from New Jersey may have lost one or two of her nine lives after being rescued from a waste compactor at the last minute.
On July 8, while performing routine maintenance on his truck, Burlington County Regional Recycling Program employee Mark Motta discovered an issue with the hydraulics.
Despite the hydraulics functioning properly, to his astonishment, there was a kitten in the compactor.
The little stowaway appeared scared and was covered in oil.
Motta saw the little head and ran to stop the compactor, climbed into the truck, and rescued her.
Motta admitted that he's unsure about the reason behind his decision to conduct a comprehensive inspection of his truck that day.
"Typically, we don't examine the truck to ensure everything is functioning properly," he stated.
To be honest, he added, 'I don't know why I did it differently that time.'
Motta removed the kitten from his truck and brought her to his plant, then consulted with his safety manager about the next steps.
The kitten was brought to the veterinarian after multiple Dawn soap baths and is now being fostered by the safety manager until she is ready to be adopted.
The lucky kitten, a dilute tricolor cat, has been named "Squishy" and recently reunited with Motta.
How Squishy made it into the compactor is a mystery, Motta said.
He said he's never found any animals in his compactor before.
Currently, Squishy is being cared for by the Rise Again Animal Rescue in Hammonton, New Jersey.
Squishy's condition was briefly updated on the rescue's social media pages along with pictures of Motta's reunion.
After her adventures, Squishy has been doing well, the rescue group stated.
People were relieved to learn that the cat was doing well and that Motta had found her before it was too late.
Squishy cannot be adopted by Motta, but he hopes she finds a good home.
He told Planet Chronicle Digital that she is a cuddler and a sweet girl.
The Rise Again Animal Rescue was contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for additional information.
