In mid-October, a kangaroo that escaped from its enclosure in Florida was discovered and returned home.
On Wednesday, the kangaroo was found by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) after it was spotted in a fenced-in area, according to FOX 35.
Since Oct. 17, residents of Pierson in Volusia County have been on the lookout for a kangaroo that escaped from its enclosure. One woman even put up signs to warn drivers about the kangaroo hopping across streets.
"Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote on X Oct. 17 that the Town of Pierson is bustling tonight."
A kangaroo was seen hopping along a road in Pierson, which is located north of Orlando.
According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, FWC's Kristen Turner stated that the FWC investigator and the kangaroo's owner responded to the location where the kangaroo was successfully captured and returned to its home after being bedded down in heavy cover.
According to FOX 35, the owner of a kangaroo was penalized for having an expired license for an exotic animal, improper caging, and not notifying FWC within 12 hours of the animal's escape.
Tamara Dubberly captured a video of a kangaroo hopping through a wooded area before it was caught on her phone.
"Dubberly said, "At first, everyone was panicking about it, but I remained calm and thought, 'It's just a kangaroo.' We've all been to the zoo and seen it. However, seeing it up close is a rare experience. So, it's cool.""
While kangaroos do not pose a threat to other species, they are strong and may defend themselves if they feel threatened, according to the FWC, as reported by FOX 35.
